Skoda India has silently started taking bookings for two lower variant Superbs, the ‘Ambition’ variant of the petrol and diesel Superbs. Officially, the car is likely to be launched on April 18, 2012. According to dealer prices we’ve received, the petrol Ambition variant is likely to be priced Rs. 1.5 lakh lower than the present base model, the Superb Elegance 1.8 TFSI MT.
The diesel Ambition variant will be priced at about Rs. 22.5 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi, according to dealer charts.
Mechanically there will no change in the engines offered in the Ambition variant. The Ambition variant will be powered by the same 1.8-litre petrol mated to six-speed manual transmission and 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to six-speed dual-clutch gearbox as in the present model.
However, the Ambition variant will be not come with comfort features such as electric sunroof, touch screen system on centre console, bi-xenon headlamps and Bluetooth. The Ambition variant will not come with safety features such as ESP (Electronic Stability Program), hill hold and hill descent features. However, it will likely retain other safety features such as front dual airbags and ABS with EBD.
The Superb is one of the best luxury sedans available below Rs. 20 lakh. No wonder, it registers consistent sales numbers and is quite ahead of its rivals such as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Nissan Teana. Read our Superb 1.8 TSI road test
