South Indian movie star ‘Kiccha’ Sudeep is the latest among high profile celebrities to drive home a Jeep Compass. Jeep India’s Bangalore dealership has just delivered a black coloured Compass to the actor. Sudeep joins the likes of Akshay Kumar and Jacqueline Fernandez, who also have driven home the Compass SUVs in the past few months. Jeep India, it seems, is on a marketing blitz, getting popular movie celebrities to drive home the Compass, the company’s best selling vehicle. With so many high profile celebrities opting for the Compass, brand recall for the SUV is bound to be massive.
The Compass SUV was first launched in India during July 2017. The SUV is built at Fiat’s Ranjangaon factory, which also happens to be the global production hub for the right-hand-drive version. In fact, the Compass is exported to multiple countries from India, including Thailand, Australia and the United Kingdom.
The SUV sold here is priced from Rs. 15.17 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. It’s sold with two engine options – a 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol with 160 Bhp and 250 Nm, and a 2 litre turbocharged diesel with 170 Bhp and 350 Nm. Both engines get 6 speed manual transmissions as standard while the petrol also gets a 7 speed, twin clutch automatic gearbox as an option.
While the Compass Petrol is a front wheel drive only car, the diesel gets a 4X4 option. Jeep will soon launch the top of the line Trailhawk variant of the Compass in India. The Compass Trailhawk will get styling changes, design changes to make it a better off roader, mechanical changes such as off-road suspension, off-road ready all wheel drive mechanism with a high torque crawl mode and a 9 speed automatic gearbox from ZF. The Compass Trailhawk is likely to be priced at about Rs. 25 lakhs. The SUV has already been previewed to Jeep dealers and the launch is said to be a few weeks away.
