SUV/MPV launches in March and April 2012

Several cars were launched in the months of March and April, 2012. Here we have put together a list of SUV and MPV launches that took place in the two months which were quite lively for the Indian car market.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport: March 12th, 2012

Variants and Prices: The Pajero Sport is available only in one variant: A manual with 4WD (four-wheel-drive) system that is priced at Rs. 23.53 lakh. The Pajero Sport is priced roughly Rs. 2.5 lakh higher than the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Chevrolet Captiva.

Looks: The Pajero Sport has a radically designed front grille with unique vertical slits that makes the SUV look brawny and aggressive. The interiors of the Pajero Sport are generations ahead of the outgoing SFX in terms of quality and fit and finish.

Performance: The Pajero Sport is powered by a 2.5-litre common rail diesel motor that puts out 178 Bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque. The Super Select 4WD (four-wheel-drive) system allows selecting either rear-wheel drive or 4WD at speeds up to 100 kmph. Also read: Pajero Sports variants and prices across 5 major cities

Comfort Features: Features offered include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, three row AC vents, front fog lights, rear wiper/washer, alloy wheels, height-adjustable driver seat, steering mounted audio controls, remote locking, central locking, AC with automatic climate control, a multi-information display and audio system with USB port.

Mitsubishi Outlander 7-seater: March 14th, 2012

Variants and Prices: The new Outlander comes in new variants: A 7-seater priced at Rs. 20.55 lakh and 5-seater priced at Rs. 20.85 lakh. The new Outlander is cheaper than the Honda CR-V.

Looks: Externally, there are no differences between the new Outlander and the old model. But on the inside, the 2012 Outlander 7-seater version has a third row with two seats that are best suited for kids. Also read: Mitsubishi Outlander 7-seater launched at Rs. 20.55 lakh!

Performance: The Outlander 7-seater is powered by the same 2.4 litre petrol motor that powers the 5-seater model. The engine belts out 166.6 Bhp of maximum power and 226 Nm of maximum torque and mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Outlander is slightly more powerful than the Honda CR-V.

Comfort features: The Outlander comes with 6-CD player, USB port, nine speakers, AM/FM radio, audio and cruise controls on steering wheel, automatic AC, warm & cool upper glove box and remote folding/unfolding outside mirrors.

Chevrolet Tavera Neo3: March 21st, 2012

Variants and Prices: The Tavera BS-IV version is offered in four variants: the Neo 3, Neo 3 Max, Neo 3 LS and Neo 3 LT. It is priced in the range of Rs. 7.15 lakh – Rs. 10.34 lakh.

Looks: The new Tavera is only mildly different from the old model. It gets Chevrolet’s bow-tie grille, refreshed front and rear bumpers and clear lens headlamps and tail lamp cluster. Despite changes, the Tavera Neo3 looks dull compared to its rivals such as the new Xylo and the 2012 Innova.

Performance: The Tavera BS-IV version is powered by a 2-litre TCDi engine that puts out 105.3 Bhp of power and 263.7 Nm. It is slightly more powerful than the Innova, but the Innova handles better than the Tavera. Also read: Chevrolet Tavera officially launched at Rs.7.51 lakh!

Comfort features:  The top-end variant gets power steering, captain seats, middle & third row AC vents, dual tone exteriors, alloy wheels and leather upholstery as well.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga: April 12th, 2012

Variants and Prices: The Ertiga seven seater compact MPV is offered in three petrol variants, LXI, VXI and ZXI and three diesel variants LDI, VDI and ZDI with prices ranging between Rs. 5.89 lakh and Rs. 8.45 lakh.

Looks: The Ertiga looks more like a car than a conventional MPV. The front looks like a mix of the new Swift and the Ritz yet the Ertiga has a distinct face. The rear is quite bland, though the side swept tail lamp cluster gives it a fresh look. The interiors of the Ertiga have a Swift-like dashboard and three rows of seats arranged in 2+3+2 pattern. Performance: The Ertiga petrol is powered by a 1.4-litre K-series motor that puts out 98 Bhp of power while the Ertiga diesel is powered by a 1.3-litre Super Turbo DDiS motor that puts out 90 Bhp of power. Both the engines are mated to 5-speed manual transmissions. When compared to the Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova, the Ertiga puts out less power, but its low body weight gives it better acceleration and top-end performance than its rivals.

Comfort features: The Ertiga ZXI/ZDI top-end variant gets AC with heater, second row AC, remote fuel lid opener, front seat belt with shoulder height adjuster, driver and co-driver seat back pocket, second and third row head restraints, all-four power windows, driver’s side power window with auto down, central door lock, keyless entry, day & night IRVM, music system with six speakers and steering wheel mounted audio controls.

Mitsubishi Montero Facelift: April 17th, 2012

Variants and Prices: The Montero gets mild updates in the form of a revised front bumper, a new radiator grille, redesigned power window panel switches and new stitch pattern on leather upholstery.

Looks: The Montero has a semi-urban yet rugged feel in its design. The massive 235 mm of ground clearance, an approach angle of 36.6 degrees and a departure angle of 25 degrees give it off-road abilities as well. Also read: Mitusbishi Montero face lift launched at Rs.40.50 lakh!

Performance: The Montero is powered by a 3,200 cc, 4-cylinder diesel engine with an intercooled turbo charger that puts out 200 Bhp of power and 441 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with sports mode and a super select 4WD system.

Comfort features: The Montero comes with features such as front row – 5-way power adjustable seats for the driver & 2-way power adjustable seats for the front passenger along with a heater function, fully flat function, height and tilt adjustable headrests, second row with 60:40 split seats, recline adjusters, tumble-type fold-up function, height adjustable headrests, third row with stowage function, height adjustable headrests, fully automatic AC, door courtesy lamps, LED foot lamps and cargo room lamp.
