The Suzuki Gixxer 155 has been very successful in bringing a lot many new 150-160cc motorcycle buyers to Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL). The Gixxer 155 is a direct rival to the likes of the Yamaha FZ16/FZ-S and the Honda CB-Hornet 160R. Thanks to the spy images we’ve seen recently, it looks like SMIPL is about to give the naked motorcycle an important update. Yes, the company is about to launch the ABS variant of the Gixxer 155. Post its launch, the Gixxer 155 will become the second model in its segment, after the Honda CB-Hornet 160R, to offer ABS.
There are very good chances of the 2018 Suzuki Gixxer 155 ABS version launching before the end of this month. As can be made from a couple of images here, the motorcycle looks ready to go on sale. The ABS version is expected to cost roughly Rs 7,000 more than the current top-end variant. At the moment, the base model of the Gixxer 155 has an ex-showroom price of Rs 77,015. It comes with a drum brake at the rear. The rear disc brake-equipped version costs Rs 80,929. The ABS-equipped version will have single-channel Anti-lock Brake System that will work only on the front wheel. This system is already available on the Gixxer SF and the Intruder 155. The ABS model will become the new range-topper and will also offer a disc brake at the rear. Visual differences will be minimal, with the only new bit being a couple of ABS stickers.
It doesn’t look like the Gixxer ABS would come with Fuel Injection (FI). That said, both Gixxer SF and Intruder offer fuel-injection and hence, it’s only a matter of time before even the Gixxer offers this technology. However, the company might be willing to stick to the carburettor for some more time to come to keep the costs under check. The Suzuki Gixxer 155 is powered by a 155cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces a maximum power of 14.8 bhp at 8,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 14Nm at 6,000rpm. Other than the aforementioned rivals, the Gixxer 155 also competes with the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 and the TVS Apache RTR160 4V. We are happy that SMIPL will soon launch the ABS-equipped version of the Gixxer as it’s an important safety feature that should be made available on all two-wheelers.
