The Gixxer has been successful with bringing many new motorcycle buyers under the Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd’s umbrella. The Suzuki Gixxer rivals the likes of Yamaha FZ16/FZ-S and Honda CB-Hornet 160R. It has recently come to light that the Gixxer would soon get an optional ABS. This will make it the second motorcycle in its segment, after the Hornet 160R, to offer ABS.
The 2018 Suzuki Gixxer ABS model will launch towards the end of this month. Seen here are some images of the upcoming motorcycle. The ABS variant will likely command a price premium of roughly Rs 6,500 over the current range-topper. Currently, the standard variant of the Gixxer is on sale at an ex-showroom price of Rs 77,015. This variant has a drum brake at the rear. The rear disc brake variant costs Rs 80,929. The ABS unit for the Gixxer will be a single-channel setup that will work only on the front wheel. This is the same system that’s already available on the Gixxer SF and the Intruder 155. Also, the ABS model will offer a rear disc brake. Other than the addition of the ABS unit, the motorcycle won’t carry any other change.
In most likelihood, the Gixxer will continue to offer a carburetted engine. It may be noted here that both the Gixxer SF and the Intruder offer a fuel-injected engine. However, the company might want to continue offering a carburetted engine only in favour of a competitive pricing. Powering the Gixxer is a 155cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that outputs a maximum power of 14.8 bhp at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 14Nm at 6,000rpm. The Suzuki Gixxer is a direct rival to the likes of the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 and the TVS Apache RTR160 4V apart from the aforementioned Japanese rivals. The introduction of the ABS will be a great move by SMIPL as it’s an important safety feature that should be offered on every two-wheeler.
