The all-new Suzuki Jimny has become extremely popular in the international markets and there is a great demand for the compact off-roader around the world markets. The straight line, boxy design of the Suzuki Jimny makes it quite interesting and many agree that it looks inspired by the design of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Liberty Walk kit from LB Performance, which is a modification garage in Japan has transformed a humble Suzuki Jimny to a mighty Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen.
The Suzuki Jimny with the Liberty Walk kit looks like a scaled-down model of the original Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. The modified Suzuki Jimny has been pictured with the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen side by side and it looks like an exact copy. The Liberty Kit adds features like an identical spare wheel cover, roof-mounted wing, replica tail lamps and many such details. At the sides, the similarities between the two can be seen in the black wheel arches, black wheels, similar light bar mounted on the roof. Both the vehicles also get squared air intakes mounted in the front bumper. Both of them also get prominent grilles and circular headlamps.
It is extremely satisfying to see the Jimny all dressed up in the G-Wagen attire. It looks extremely good as well as affordable. The exact price of the kit is not known but it should not cost more than a few lakhs as opposed to Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon’s price, which way too high for many enthusiasts. There is such a similarity between the two that many would not be able to recognise the Jimny underneath the body. It can definitely pass as a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen in front of people who do not know their cars well.
Of course, underneath the hood, both the vehicles are a world apart. The Jimny is powered by a 660cc, three-cylinder engine that generates a maximum power of 64 PS and a peak torque of 96 Nm. There is a Jimny Sierra version, which gets a more powerful 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine that generates a maximum power of 101 PS and peak torque of 130 Nm.
The Jimny gets a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Coming to the Mercedes-AMG G-Wagen, it is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre, V8 petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 577 Bhp and peak torque of 850 Nm. The AMG version is the only variant available in India. Mercedes-Benz also offers a regular version of the G-Class available in the international markets. It is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine that generates a maximum of 416 Bhp and 610 Nm. Both the versions of the car get automatic transmissions only.
While there were a lot of speculations on the launch of the Jimny in the Indian market, the launch is highly unlikely at the moment. However, Maruti has discontinued the good old Gypsy from the Indian market and there is no better replacement than the all-new Jimny in the market.
