Suzuki launched the all-new Jimny in the international markets last year, and the compact SUV has suddenly gained immense popularity around the world. There is a huge waiting period of the all-new Jimny in the global markets, and reportedly, Suzuki has also stopped taking new orders for the SUV. Why is it so popular? Well, here is a glimpse of the all-new Jimny doing dune-bashing in Dubai.
The Suzuki Jimny seen in the video is the Sierra version, which gets a more powerful engine. The SUV has been spotted doing dune bashing with a bunch of ATVs on the sand, and it successfully reaches all the challenging places including climbing the steep incline of the sand. Most of such dune bashing is done by large SUVs powered by V6 or V8 engines and fitted with wide tyres. The Suzuki Jimny seems to be in the stock condition.
The success of Jimny in the dunes can be attributed to its lightweight body. The extremely light body of the Jimny enables it to complete the climb and reach extreme places. The all-new Jimny is a no-nonsense off-roader, which is purpose-built for extreme off-roading.
The Jimny Sierra is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that develops a maximum of 101 PS and a peak torque of 130 Nm. The all-new engine debuted with the new Ciaz and is also available with the all-new Ertiga in the Indian market. There is also the regular version of the Jimny, which is smaller in dimensions than the Sierra version and gets powered by a smaller 658cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that develops a maximum power of 64 Bhp and a peak torque of 96 Nm. The Sierra gets an option of 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic version.
The Suzuki AllGrip Pro AWD system is standard in both the vehicles. The 4X4 system offers shift-on-fly and a low-ratio transfer case, which makes the Jimny very capable, especially in the challenging surfaces. The all-new Jimny is priced from Rs. 9.06 lakh to Rs. 11.85 lakh in the Japanese market while the bigger Jimny Sierra is priced at Rs. 10.94 lakh and Rs. 12.82 lakhs.
The all-new Jimny is based on the HEARTECT platform, which also underpins a lot of Maruti Suzuki cars in India, including the all-new WagonR and the all-new Ertiga. It gets features like SmartPlay infotainment system, which is touch-based and offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay infotainment system. It offers most of the modern features including an automatic climate control system, keyless entry, engine start-stop button and automatic headlamps. The safety net includes Hill hold and hill descent, 6sixairbags, electronic stability program and tyre pressure monitoring system.
It should be noted that the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy will be discontinued from the Indian market later this year. However, Maruti Suzuki has not announced the launch of the all-new Jimny in the Indian market yet. However, there are many reports that suggest Suzuki is expected to shift the production of the Jimny partially to India, which will make its launch in India quite evident.
