Engine and transmission

Kia is offering Sonet with three engine options. There is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, 1.0-litre turbocharged engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The turbocharged engine and the diesel engine is also offered with an automatic gearbox.

The naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 83 bhp of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to only a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel engine produces 99 bhp of max power and 240 Nm of peak torque if you get the 6-speed manual gearbox. It is also offered with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox in which the power and torque outputs are bumped up to 115 bhp and 250 Nm.

Then there is the turbocharged engine that also gets direct injection. It produces 118 bhp of max power and 172 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a 6-speed intelligent Manual Transmission and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The iMT gearbox offers the best of both worlds. It is essentially a clutchless manual gearbox so you get the convenience of driving with one foot and you can still enjoy gearshifts and take the engine to its redline. If you get the dual-clutch automatic gearbox then also you get the paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel to take control of the gearbox manually.

Kia Sonet Fuel Efficiency

The naturally aspirated petrol engine delivers fuel efficiency of 18.4 kmpl. The turbo petrol engine delivers fuel efficiency of 18.2 kmpl with the iMT gearbox, if you get the dual-clutch automatic gearbox, then the fuel economy is 18.3 kmpl. The diesel engine returns an impressive 24.1 kmpl with the manual gearbox whereas with the automatic transmission, it delivers 19 kmpl. All these fuel efficiency figures are reported by the manufacturer itself.
