Dilip Joshi who plays the role of “Jethalal” on a popular TV Show called “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah” has bought a new Kia Sonet compact SUV. Despite being a famous actor, Dilip opted for the Sonet because he likes to keep it low-profile and an expensive luxury car would draw a lot of attention. He also posed with his family while taking the delivery of the car. It seems like he has opted for the top-end variant.
Kia Sonet is a very popular compact SUV in its segment. It has played a major role in making Kia Motors profitable in just 2 years of entering the Indian market. The Sonet goes against other well-established players such as Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue. Other competitors include Toyota Urban Cruiser, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300.
The prices of the Kia Sonet start at Rs. 6.89 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 13.55 lakhs ex-showroom. Kia Sonet Anniversary Edition
Kia says that the Anniversary Edition is inspired by Aurochs, which is wild Eurasian bulls. This has been done to add a more muscular look to the Sonet. There are new skid plates with tangerine accents. The accents continue on the side and in the tiger-nose grille.
Engine and transmission
Kia is offering Sonet with three engine options. There is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, 1.0-litre turbocharged engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The turbocharged engine and the diesel engine is also offered with an automatic gearbox.
The naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 83 bhp of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to only a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel engine produces 99 bhp of max power and 240 Nm of peak torque if you get the 6-speed manual gearbox. It is also offered with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox in which the power and torque outputs are bumped up to 115 bhp and 250 Nm.
Then there is the turbocharged engine that also gets direct injection. It produces 118 bhp of max power and 172 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a 6-speed intelligent Manual Transmission and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The iMT gearbox offers the best of both worlds. It is essentially a clutchless manual gearbox so you get the convenience of driving with one foot and you can still enjoy gearshifts and take the engine to its redline. If you get the dual-clutch automatic gearbox then also you get the paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel to take control of the gearbox manually.
Kia Sonet Fuel Efficiency
The naturally aspirated petrol engine delivers fuel efficiency of 18.4 kmpl. The turbo petrol engine delivers fuel efficiency of 18.2 kmpl with the iMT gearbox, if you get the dual-clutch automatic gearbox, then the fuel economy is 18.3 kmpl. The diesel engine returns an impressive 24.1 kmpl with the manual gearbox whereas with the automatic transmission, it delivers 19 kmpl. All these fuel efficiency figures are reported by the manufacturer itself.
