Tata has been doing an exceptional job on the recent vehicles. After the launch of Tiago, Nexon, Tigor and Hexa, Tata is now focusing on a new segment. The new segment is the premium hatchback segment and Tata has already showcased the concept model of the 45X. Here’s everything that you should know about the car.
Tata has a few products in the pipeline. The production version of the 45X concept will be launched in late 2019 in India. The 45X will be launched after a few products from Tata like the H5X. Even the test mules of the 45X look far away from a finished product. So late 2019 is the timeline you’re looking for the launch of this vehicle.
The 45X will enter a segment that already sees a very high competition in the market. Direct rivals like Maruti Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20 are in the top 10 selling vehicle’s list in India. The stiff competition will surely be a big task for Tata to negotiate. Other rivals also include Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz in the market.
Smaller than you’re expecting
The 45X concept model showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo is quite big. In the production form, the size will shrink in length and will be similar to the competition. We can expect the length to be around 3,999 mm just like the competitors.
But it will look quite similar
Going by Tata’s current line-up of concept-production models, the Nexon is extremely similar to the concept model showcased at the earlier Auto Expo. Pratap Bose, Head of Design, Tata Motors has revealed that the H5X will be 80% similar to the concept model. There is no information on the similarity of the 45X and the production version but be assured that it will be quite similar.
Will get Tiago’s engines
However, they will be re-tuned for the premium hatchback. Tata is expected to put turbocharged diesel engine from the Tiago but it will get the variable turbo geometry (VGT), that will make it much more powerful. Even the petrol engine is expected to be turbocharged.
Will get an advanced transmission
For the transmission, there will be 6-speed manual transmission as standard. However, Tata is developing a new twin-clutch transmission that will be offered with its premium offerings. The dual clutch transmission may make its way to the production version of the 45X. Only Polo GT TSI gets a dual-clutch transmission in the segment.
An all-new platform
This will be Tata’s first ever car based on its all-new Advanced Modular Platform (AMP). It is a new cost-effective platform developed by Tata and will be used in many future vehicles including sedans, SUVs and MUVs. The 45X will mark the debut of this new platform.
Will not get the cabin that you saw
Tata blacked out the windscreen of the 45X at the Auto Expo. Later, they released a few official images of the interiors of the car with wooden dashboard and semi-circle steering wheel. Be assured that it is not how the car’s interiors will look like. It is expected to get interiors similar to the Tata Nexon with a floating type infotainment screen and neat lines.
No panoramic sunroof too
The 45X showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo received many high-end premium bits like sleek headlamps, panoramic sunroof, low profile 18-inch wide tyres and more. In the production model, all these equipment will be replaced with cost-effective equipment.
Based on IMPACT 2.0
The car will follow the design IMPACT 2.0 design language. The same philosophy has also shaped the Nexon, Hexa, Tiago and the Tigor. The same design philosophy will mean that the vehicle will get similar humanity line face design with sleek headlamps. The car will also get strong body lines and segment-leading or highest alloy wheel size. The car will get the new Tata face but is expected to get a sleek body design.
