Tata 45X premium hatchback to get mild-hybrid petrol engine

The Tata 45X was showcased as a premium hatchback concept at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. The production version of the 45X will rival cars such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. According to a Team-BHP source, Tata Motors will offer mild hybrid technology in its upcoming premium hatchback.

The upcoming 45X would be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine that are also available with the Tata Nexon. Tata is also expected to offer an automatic transmission with the petrol engine of the 45X. Both the engines would get the drive modes that change the power output of the vehicle.

The 45X is expected to be heavily inspired by the 45X concept version that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. It will be the first-ever premium hatchback from the brand and will take on the likes of Hyundai Elite i20 and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. 45X was spotted testing under heavy camouflage a couple of times on Indian roads.

Tata is expected to keep the production version close to the concept version just like the Nexon and the Harrier. Tata has not revealed any other details about the 45X but it will become the first vehicle to be launched the Advanced Modular Platform (AMP) in the market.

Earlier in January 2019, images of the speedometer console of the 45X was leaked and it looked similar to the one seen on Tata’s Harrier SUV. There are even speculations about the name of the premium hatchback. The 45X code named hatchback is likely to be called ‘Aquila’.

Another product that Tata is working at the moment is a full size SUV, which is code-named as H7X it was recently spotted testing in Italy. It is likely to be a seven seater version of the recently launched Harrier SUV. Tata will showcase the 45X premium hatchback at he upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
