Tata Motors is one of the most leading car manufacturer in India. They have a variety of products in their portfolio and their first product into the premium hatchback segment was Altroz which was launched in the market last year. Tata Altroz is currently the safest car in this segment and has a 5 star rating at Global NCAP crash test. It competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz in the segment. It looks like Tata is planning to introduce Tata Altroz with a factory fitted CNG and the same ws also spotted testing recently.
This update from Tata Motors is actually a good move considering the rising fuel prices in the country. The test vehicle was spotted testing in Pune and in the picture the premium hatchback can be seen with an emission testing kit at the rear. It is likely that Tata is working on a CNG version of Altroz as their entry level hatchback Tiago is also being tested with a CNG kit.
Other than the addition of a CNG kit, no other visual changes are expected to be offered with the Altroz. In the picture there is no camouflage on the car which indicates the same. Tata has not informed anything regarding the same so far. The Altroz CNG is expected to be launched in the market soon after they launch Tiago CNG. The Tata Altroz is one of the good looking cars in the segment. It has a very unique design language and it offers several features too.

For example, the doors on the Altroz hatchback open 90 degrees wide for easy ingress and egress. Top-end version of Altroz offers features like touchscreen infotainment screen, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, semi-digital instrument cluster, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, automatic climate control, drive modes, idle start stop, ambient lights, rain sensing wipers, electrically adjustable ORVMs and so on.
Tata Altroz is available with three engine options. There is a 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This is engine generates 86 Ps and 113 Nm of peak torque. Tata is likely to introduce the CNG kit in this engine option only. There is also a possibility that Tata will be offering CNG fuel option in limited trims. The next engine on offer is a 1.5 litre diesel engine that generates 90 Ps and 200 Nm of peak torque.
The last engine on offer is the turbocharged version of the 1.2 litre petrol engine. This version is known as i-Turbo and was introduced in the market earlier this year. This turbo petrol engine generates 110 Ps and 140 Nm of peak torque. All these engines are available with manual gearbox as standard. Tata has not offered automatic transmission with any of the variants.
The introduction of CNG in the cars is actually a good move. It would attract more customers who wanted a hatchback with better fuel efficiency and safety. Currently, car manufacturers like Maruti and Hyundai are the only manufacturers in India to offer a factory fitted CNG kit with the car. With introduction of CNG in Altroz, Tata will become the first car manufacturer in the country to offer a company fitted CNg kit in a premium hatchback.
