Altroz is Tata Motors’ first ever product into the space of premium hatchbacks that have been ruled by cars like Maruti Baleno and Hyundai elite i20 in the past. Tata plans to launch the Altroz premium hatchback later this month and is likely to price it competitively. A cuple of days ago, upcoming Altroz was spotted next to a Baleno and today here we have a comparison video that compares the upcoming Tata Altroz and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
The video has been uploaded by Ujjwal Saxena on his youtube channel. The video does a detailed comparison of how different both hatchbacks are from each other in terms of design and features. Starting with the Altroz, being the latest car in the segment it has adventages over Baleno in terms of design.
The headlamp of the Altroz looks, sleek and sharp with black gloss band running over the headlamp and chrome strip on the lower portion of the grille. The headlamp unit itself is stretched out and gets projector type head lmaps and the fog lamps that are placed right below it get an LED DRL integrated in it. The Baleno also has a interesting design and gets projector headlamps and LED DRLs at the front but looks a bit dated in front of the all-new Altroz.
Coming to the side profile of the Baleno, it looks plain and simple whereas in Altroz there is more drama a gloss black panel running through the window line which Tata Motors calls shooting comet line. The ORVMs and the roof get a contrasting black finish which Baleno does not and the design of the alloys wheels also look more attractive on the Altroz. Similarly, rear of the Altroz looks sharp with 3-D looking split LED tail lamp with spoiler, a black band running between the lights to give the boot a dual tone finish and a rear defogger and position lamp along with parking sensors. The Baleno again has curvy design with smooth lines running all over the car.
The video then compares the boot space and interiors of the car. Being a new car, interior of the Altroz feels more preium and has more features like digital cum analog instrument cluster, cruise control, ambient lighting and so on. Baleno on the other hand misses out on features like cruise control.
Talking about the dimensions, The Altroz measures 3,990 mm in length while the Maruti Suzuki Baleno measures 3,995 mm. The Tata Altroz is 10mm wider than the Baleno and measure 1,755 mm compared to 1,745 mm of the Baleno. Further, the Altroz is also taller than the Baleno and measures 1,523 mm compared to the 1,510 mm of the Baleno.
Altroz will eature some segment first features like Drive modes, 90 degree wide opening doors, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, Automatic rain sensing wipers and a wearable key. Altroz when launched will offer a 1.2L petrol engine producing 86 PS and 113 Nm of torque and 1.5L turbo diesel engine generating 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque. It only gets a manual transmission as of now. Tata Motors will be launching Altroz in India on 22 January 2020.
