Tata Motors has finally launched its much-awaited Altroz iCNG in the country, with a starting price of Rs 7.55 lakh. The Altroz iCNG is the first car in India to feature the innovative twin-cylinder CNG technology developed by Tata Motors. The Altroz CNG will be offered with features such as a voice-assisted electric sunroof, wireless charger, and air purifier. The Altroz iCNG will be offered in six variants, including XE, XM+, XM+(S), XZ, XZ+(S), and XZ+O(S). It is available in four color options: Opera Blue, Downtown Red, Arcade Grey, and Avenue White.
The ALFA (Agile, Light, Flexible, and Advanced) Architecture platform, which has earned the 5-Star Global NCAP adult safety certification, serves as the foundation for the Altroz range. In terms of safety measures with the new CNG technology, the Altroz iCNG features a micro-switch to keep the car switched off during refueling. The vehicle is also equipped with thermal incident protection, which shuts off the CNG supply to the engine and releases petrol into the environment as a safety measure.

According to the company, the twin cylinders below the baggage area offer the safest option because the valves and pipes are shielded from any harm under the load floor. Additionally, the enhanced rear body structure and 6-point mounting system for the CNG tanks provide additional rear crash safety for the Altroz iCNG, as stated by Tata Motors. The Altroz iCNG also comes with an industry-first advanced Single ECU and features Direct Start in CNG mode, allowing for jerk-free shifting between petrol and CNG modes.
In terms of creature comfort and features on the inside, the Altroz iCNG comes equipped with a voice-assisted electric sunroof, wireless charger, and air purifier. It also comes with a host of premium features such as projector headlamps, LED DRLs, R16 diamond-cut alloy wheels, an 8-speaker touchscreen infotainment system by Harman™ with Android Auto™ and Apple Carplay™ connectivity, premium leatherette seats, fully automatic climate control, rear AC vents, height-adjustable driver seat, and others. Powering the Altroz iCNG will be a 1.2L Revotron engine, which generates a maximum power of 73.5 PS and a torque of 103 Nm.
Commenting on the launch of the brand-new Altroz iCNG, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said, “Customers are increasingly choosing alternate fuel options with the intent of an economical as well as an eco-friendly drive. CNG as a fuel, with its wide availability and accessibility, has gained a lot of acceptance. However, opting for CNG meant compromising on aspirational features and significantly giving up boot space. In January 2022, we addressed the first compromise by launching the advanced iCNG technology in Tiago and Tigor, offering superior performance and top-end features. Today, we are delighted to launch the Altroz iCNG, an industry-first offering that will redefine the CNG market by addressing the major concern of boot space.”
He further added, “The Altroz iCNG is a testament to our deep understanding of the customer’s need and our engineering prowess. With the breakthrough of the twin-cylinder CNG technology and advance features we are expecting more personal segment buyers to strongly consider this option. Our multi-powertrain strategy in the Altroz portfolio today offers petrol, diesel, iturbo and iCNG, providing an array of options for the customers to choose from. The Altroz iCNG will bolster our expansive New Forever range and continue to sustain our growth momentum in passenger cars.”
