Tata has launched the most powerful variant of the Altroz premium hatchback in India today. The Altroz iTURBO is available in three variants – XT, XZ and XZ+. With the new variant, the Altroz will now take on the turbocharged variants of the Volkswagen Polo and the Hyundai i20 in the segment. Tata Motors has announced that the bookings will start tomorrow and the price announcement will happen on 22nd January. Customers can book the vehicle for Rs 11,000.
Coming to the visual changes, Tata has not done any in the iTURBO. It looks exactly the same as the standard Altroz except for the new badge in the rear of the car. The car is available with a new Harbour Blue colour and there are a total of five colours available with the variant. The Altroz iTurbo gets contrasting black roof.

While there are no changes on the outside, there are a few changes that set the iTURBO variant apart from the rest. Tata has updated the dashboard with dual colours. There is a light grey and black tone that adds a premium look to the vehicle. Apart from that, Tata has added height-adjustable driver seat, an armrest for the rear seat passengers, a power outlet in the rear, one-touch up power windows, push-button start-stop, cruise control and more. The iTURBO variant also gets Xpress Cool feature that allows the cabin to cool down in the minimum amount of time. On using the Xpress Cool, the driver window automatically rolls down and the AC temperature is set to the minimum and the fan speed to the maximum. The feature will be quite useful in the Indian summer weather conditions. The iTURBO version also gets new leatherette seats.
The size of the infotainment system remains the same. It is the 7.0-inch touchscreen unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Tata has also added the iRA technology to the infotainment system that offers a range of connected car functions. The iNTELLIGENT REAL-TIME ASSIST will offer What3Words navigation system, find my car feature, warning on the mobile phone app for intrusion, vehicle crash notification, locking/unlocking, remote commands, location of the and live vehicle diagnostics. The iRA also provides ratings for the car driver and driving habits that help them to create better driving habits. There are also two additional tweeters available in the iTURBO variant. The infotainment system now allows adding customised wallpapers too. The iRA comes with Hindi, Hinglish and English voice commands and there are over 70 commands that you can use.
More powerful
The Tata Altroz iTURBO offers a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine that also powers the Nexon. It produces a maximum power of 110 PS at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 140 Nm between 1,500 and 5,500 rpm. That is about a 28% increase in power compared to the standard petrol variant of the Altroz. The standard Altroz petrol produces a maximum power of 82 PS. The torque output has increased by 24% compared to the standard non-turbocharged Altroz petrol. According to the official figures, the Altroz iTurbo can do 0-100 km/h in just 12.9 seconds. Tata has also added additional driving modes. Sport and City modes are exclusively available with the Altroz iTURBO at the moment.The engine is available only with a five-speed transmission. The iTURBO variant returns more than 18 km/l.
