Tata Motors is all set to make an entry into the premium hatchback segment with the launch of Altroz hatchback later this month. Altroz will compete with cars like Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Toyota Glanza, Honda Jazz in the segment. Tata Motors has already started taking bookings for the car and will be launching the car on 22 January 2020. couple of weeks ago we got a chance to experience this premium hatchback from Tata Motors and you can have a quick look at the review clicking here.
Now, a report from Team Bhp shares an information that in future the Tata Altroz might get more powerful. According to the report, Tata Motors is planning to introduce the Nexon state of tune in its diesel engine. what this means is that Altroz will still be getting the 1.5L diesel engine but it will generate more power than the current one. Report also suggests that manufacturer will only be considering about launching the Nexon state of tune diesel engine on the basis of sales volume of Altroz. The 1.5L diesel engine in Altroz currently produces 89 Bhp and 200 Nm of torque. If the engine gets upated to meet Nexon’s state of tune, then it will generate 108 Bhp and 260 Nm of peak which is huge for a car in this segment.
Tata Altroz is based on 45X concept that was showcased in Auto Expo couple of years ago. Altroz is the first car from Tata to utilise their ALFA platform, ALFA stands for Agile, Light, Flexible and Advanced. This platform is designed to accommodate various body styles like sedan, compact SUV, hatchbacks what this means that we can expect to see ALFA platform in many of the upcoming Tata cars.
Tata Altroz has a very striking design with upswept headlamps, kinked window line, blacked out boot, uniquely designed tail lamps and dual tone alloy wheels. On the inside, it gets a 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, speakers from Harman, rain sensing wipers, keyless entry, push button start and so on.
The Altroz when launched will be available with a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 85 Bhp and 113 Nm of torque and a 1.5L turbocharged diesel unit producing 89 Bhp and 200 Nm torque. It will only be getting a manual transmission but an automatic is likely to follow in future. A twin clutch automatic gearbox is under development for the Altroz.
