Tata confirms engines for the upcoming Nexon

Tata is preparing to launch one of their most anticipated products in the market. Tata will enter the sub-compact SUV segment with the launch of the Nexon in India that will take on the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. The launch is lined-up for the festive season this year and Tata has already confirmed the engine line-up for its all-new offering.

Tata confirms engines for the upcoming Nexon

The Tata Nexon will mark the entry of two new engines from Tata. For the petrol engine, there will be 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol Revotron motor, while the diesel engine will be an all-new 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine from the Revotorq family.

The petrol engine is developed from the 1.2-litre engine that is found in the Tiago and the Tigor. The turbocharged three-cylinder engine develops a maximum power of 108 Bhp at 5,000 rpm and the torque peaks at 170 Nm between 2000 to 4000 rpm. The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre engine that produces a similar power of 108 Bhp at 3750 rpm and 260 Nm of peak torque that peaks at 1500 rpm and stays till 2750 rpm. Both the engines will get a 6-speed synchromesh transmission with overdrive feature. There is no option of automatic at the moment.

The Revotron petrol engine will be manufactured at the Sanand plant of Tata while the Revotorq diesel engine will be manufactured at the Ranjangaon facility. Both the engines will get Eco, City and Sport modes.

Both these engines have been designed and developed post extensive feedback from auto enthusiasts, expert drivers, followed by extensive testing across India, on different terrains. We are confident that this new family of engines will further help us build our brand and deliver a memorable experience on-road.”
