TVC of the upcoming Tata Gravitas 6 seat SUV

Tata showcased the Gravitas at the Auto Expo 2020. Being the new flagship of Tata Motors, it will cost higher than the Harrier. The TVC that is released by Tata Motors give us a good look of what the production version of the Gravitas will look like from outside. The Gravitas is basically a Harrier underneath. There are no mechanical changes. So, it continues to get the 2.0-litre Kyrotec diesel engine which is sourced from Fiat. The engine produces 170 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 350 Nm. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. There is also a Hyundai sourced 6-speed automatic torque converted gearbox that you can opt for if you want the convenience of driving an automatic.

The Gravitas is also based on the same Omega ARC architecture as the Harrier. However, the Gravitas is 63 mm longer and 80 mm taller than the Harrier. This helps in accommodating the third-row seats while the raised roof helps in liberating more headroom. Tata will be offering captain seats for the second row, which will be more comfortable for the occupants. Although, there should be an option of a bench seat for the second row. Then is the interior theme of the cabin, which also has a more premium appeal. The Gravitas gets beige coloured leather upholstery whereas the Harrier gets a much darker brown theme for the cabin. The lighter colour and added headroom help in making the cabin feel much airier.

While most of the exterior looks a lot similar to the Harrier, there are quite some differences when you start coming towards the back of the SUV. As mentioned before the Gravitas is longer, it also gets a sleeker pair of LED tail lamps. At the rear, you get a rear spoiler, roof rails and a tailgate which is much more upright when compared to the Harrier. The side profile gets the same diamond-cut alloy wheels that we have seen on the 2020 Harrier.

Tata will be offering an extensive feature list with the Gravitas. It will include an 8.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system that we have also seen on the Harrier. It comes equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The infotainment system is connected to 4 speakers, 4 tweeters, a subwoofer and an Amplifier. All of which are tuned and sourced from JBL. There is a 7-inch TFT coloured instrument cluster with a Multi-information display that shows various information to the driver. Other features include cruise control, projector headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lamps, multi driving modes, multi-function steering wheel, push-button to start/stop and much more. You also get a panoramic sunroof, 6-way adjustable powered driver seat with lumbar support and automatic inside rearview mirror.

The SUV will get safety features such as Hill Descent Control, rear parking sensors, reverse parking camera, upto 6 airbags, traction control, brake disc wiping, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, cornering stability control, traction control and rollover mitigation. Tata Gravitas is expected to be launched in the first half of 2021. The starting price of the Gravitas should be around Rs. 14 lakhs ex-showroom. Once launched Tata Gravitas will go against the likes of Toyota Innova Crysta, MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming 7-seater version of the Hyundai Creta.
