Tata’s Safari is doing pretty well in the Indian market, which can be seen in the sales of April’21. The Safari’s biggest rival currently is the MG Hector Plus and Tata has managed to outsell it by quite a margin. The same applies for the Harrier and Hector in which the Harrier outsold Hector by a good margin.
Tata sold 1,514 units of Safari and 1,712 units of Harrier in April’21 bringing the total sales figure to 3,226 units whereas the MG managed to sell 2,147 units which include the Hector and Hector Plus. So, Tata sold 1,079 units more than MG Motor which translates to 52.26 percent.

The most affordable SUV among the four is the MG Hector starting at Rs. 13.17 lakhs ex-showroom and the top-end variant costs Rs. 18.85 lakhs ex-showroom. Then there is the Hector Plus which starts at Rs. 13.62 lakhs ex-showroom and goes upto to Rs. 19.60 lakhs ex-showroom.
When compared the Tata Harrier and Safari costs more. The Harrier starts at Rs. 13.99 lakhs ex-showroom and goes upto Rs. 20.45 lakhs ex-showroom. The Safari is priced between Rs. 14.69 lakhs ex-showroom and Rs 21.45 lakhs ex-showroom. Despite costing more the Harrier and the Safari managed to beat the MG Hector and Hector Plus in terms of sales figures.
Tata Safari
The Safari is the latest offering from the homegrown manufacturer and it is the new flagship for them. It comes with many features and equipment. It is 63mm longer and 80 mm taller than the Harrier. This has been done to add the third row of seats to the SUV. It also comes with a “step roof” design which is a throwback to the older generations of the Safari. It also gets a different more premium grille up-front. You can choose the Safari as a 7-seater which comes with a bench seat for the second-row or as a 6-seater which comes with two captain seats for the second row. The cabin theme is also different from the Harrier. The upholstery is finished in white or earthy brown colour if you opt for the Adventure Persona Edition. It also has a larger boot space, electric parking brake and rear disc brakes. It also runs on larger 18-inch alloy wheels.
Tata Harrier
The Harrier got a major update in 2020 which added more features and improved quite a bit of thing on the Harrier. The Harrier’s cabin is finished in dark brown or black depending on the variant that you opt for. Tata also offers some special editions of the Harrier. There is Camo and Dark edition. The Camo is finished in a unique green colour while the Dark comes with black interiors, black exterior paint colour and blacked-out alloy wheels.
MG Hector and Hector Plus
The Hector and the Hector Plus was updated in January’21. The interior of the Hector now is finished in black and beige colour and its touchscreen infotainment system was also updated with more features and voice commands. Both the SUVs got new larger alloy wheels, wireless charger, ventilated front seats and auto-dimming interior rear view mirror.
