Tata Motors will open bookings of the Harrier SUV from the 15th of October, 2018. The 5 seat SUV’s bookings will be accepted at all Tata dealers across the country against a booking amount of Rs. 30,000. The Harrier’s market launch will happen only in January 2019 though. Deliveries of the SUV will happen a month after launch.
People booking the Harrier now will be able to jump the queue and avoid the rush after launch, and will also get priority delivery of the SUV. S N Barman, Vice President, Sales & Network, Passenger Vehicle Division, Tata Motors, confirmed the booking details of the Tata Harrier with the following statement,
We will start accepting bookings for the all-new Harrier for an amount of ? 30,000. We are evaluating an introductory price for the Harrier when we will launch the SUV in January 2019 and we are also planning to start the deliveries within a month of the launch.
The Tata Harrier SUV will be based on the OMEGA platform – a derivative of the Land Rover LS550 platform that’s been suitably localized. The SUV will be sold with a 2 liter turbocharged diesel engine, offered with two gearbox options – a 6 speed manual and a 6 speed torque converter automatic.
The SUV will get front wheel drive and all wheel drive layouts. It’ll be Tata Motors’ most expensive SUV, sitting above the Hexa in terms of price and positioning. A petrol engine could join the SUV’s line-up after a while. Initially though, the Harrier will be diesel-only.
The 2 liter diesel is likely to be offered in 140 Bhp-320 Nm state of tune although some reports do speculate a higher, 170 Bhp-350 Nm state of tune for the Harrier. Official word from Tata Motors is yet to arrive though. What we do know is that the Harrier is likely to rival the top-end Hyundai Creta and entry-level Jeep Compass variants.
