What this also means is that the SUV’s ex-showroom price will start from about Rs. 15 lakhs, making it the most  expensive Tata car sold in the country. The Hyundai Creta’s top trim is priced at Rs. 15.03 lakhs. The Tata Harrier will be the new flagship vehicle from the brand, and will sit above the Hexa in terms of price and positioning.

The top-end variant of the Harrier is likely to be priced a little under Rs. 20 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The top-end Jeep Compass is priced at Rs. 22.74 lakhs. Tata Motors will launch the Harrier SUV in January 2019, and bookings for  the same will open on the 15th of October.

It will be a five seater, and will be based on the Land Rover LS550 platform, which Tata Motors has localized and  renamed as OMEGA. The SUV will get both front wheel drive and all-wheel drive layouts, and will be initially  available as a diesel-only model.

The engine that will power the Tata Harrier will be the 2.0 liter Fiat Multijet unit that’s also offered on the Jeep  Compass. What’s not clear though is the state of tune that this engine will be offered in. While some reports state  that the engine will be offered in 140 Bhp-320 Nm state of tune, others mention that it’ll get 170 Bhp-350 Nm  outputs. What is clear though is the fact that this engine will have multiple drive modes.

As for gearboxes, a 6 speed manual gearbox will be standard while a 6 speed torque converter automatic transmission sourced from Hyundai will be offered as an option. The Harrier will get twin airbags and ABS+EBD as standard across variants. The SUV will also get ISOFIX child seat mounting points, a seat belt reminder alert, speed alert and reverse parking sensors as standard safety features across all variants.
