The Hexa is finally here, and it’s Tata’s biggest launch for 2017. The crossover’s been priced stunningly at 11.99 lakhs, under-cutting both the Toyota Innova Crysta (14.13 lakhs) and the Mahindra XUV500 (12.47 lakhs). The body-on-ladder crossover offers 7 seats, high ground clearance, massive street presence, loads of features and a powerful turbo diesel engine.
Variant-wise prices ex-showroom Delhi: XE: 11.99 lakhs, XM MT: 13.85 lakhs, XM AT: 15.05 lakhs, XT MT: 16.2 lakhs and XT AT: 17.49 lakhs.
It’s also Tata’s flagship vehicle, and comes with top-class fit and finish. Bookings have been open for a few weeks now and Tata is said to be already sitting on 3,000 bookings. The XE, or the base trim gets the 2.2 liter Varicor turbo diesel engine in 140 Bhp-320 Nm state of tune. A 5 speed manual gearbox and a rear wheel drive layout are standard.
All other variants feature a more powerful version of the 2.2 liter Varicor diesel motor, with 154 Bhp-400 Nm on tap. 6 speed manual and automatic gearboxes are on offer, and so is a 4 wheel drive layout on the top end XT MT trim. All variants of the Hexa feature twin airbags, ABS+EBD, powered wing mirrors, remote central locking, projector headlamps, steering mounted audio controls and a stereo system.
Other significant ‘standard’ features include disc brakes on all four wheels, a 200 mm ground clearance, a segment-leading 2,850 mm wheelbase, cooled glove box and tilt steering. The Hexa is quite imposing, with a 4,788 mm length, a 1,903 mm width and a 1,791 mm height. 235/70 R16 and 235/55 R19 tubeless tyres are on offer.
The XM variants add the more powerful engine, manual and automatic gearbox options, 3 drive modes, mood lighting for the interiors, an 8 speaker infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and voice recognition, reverse parking sensors, heating function for the wing mirrors, rear wiper and defogger, and body coloured wing mirrors and door handles.
The XT variant offers 19 inch alloy wheels, day time running LEDs, side and curtain airbags, ESP, traction control, hill hold and descent control, reverse parking camera, 10 speakers for the infotainment system, auto headlamps and wipers, cruise control, and leather cladding for seats and steering wheel. Official test drives and deliveries of the Hexa will start from today.
