Tata Hexa Special Edition spied

Tata Motors may launch a special edition of the Hexa this festive season. The crossover was spotted in a unique metallic brown that is very different from the regular colours offered. The standard Hexa is available in Arizona Blue, Tungsten Silver, Pearl White, Platinum Silver and Sky Grey colours.

Apart from the brown paint scheme, the vehicle spotted also featured a chrome lined grille element, smoked headlamps, scuff plate on the front bumper and black trim around the fog lamps. These cosmetic features are found on the regular Hexa as well. The special edition model featured 19 inch alloy wheels, similar to the ones on the standard Hexa.

The special edition version is expected to be available only on the top-end model. The engine could be the 2.2 liter Varicor turbocharged diesel with 156 PS and 400 Nm. 6 speed manual and automatic gearboxes are expected, along with rear wheel drive and all wheel drive options.

Tata is also expected to add a few new features on the interiors of the vehicle to justify the ‘Special Edition’ tag. Ever since the Jeep Compass has been launched in India, both Mahindra and Tata has been aggressively marketing the XUV500 and Hexa respectively.

Both companies first launched cheeky ads to welcome the Compass. Mahindra then added a W9 variant of the XUV500, and the new special edition Hexa could be Tata’s response. Compared to the Jeep Compass, the Hexa does have its advantages. Firstly, it is priced much cheaper. Secondly, it offers 7 seats and much more spacious interiors. Thirdly, it is also available with a diesel automatic option, which the Compass will get only next year. Fourthly, it has more sales and service center outlets spread throughout India. Finally, it has much better street presence than the Jeep, which is quite small compared to the Hexa’s imposing proportions.
