Amid the soaring fuel prices in the country, more automakers are now starting to offer CNG variants of their popular cars. Tata Motors is one of the latest carmakers to join this rally of CNG offerings and as per the sources, it will be launching the Tiago and Tigor CNGs early next year. In addition to this duo, Tata should also be launching a CNG iteration of its newest vehicle in the lineup, the Punch.
The micro SUV from Tata became an instant and has already witnessed a huge success amongst the people of India, which is why creating a CNG variant of the Punch seems to be the most logical thing for Tata to do. Adding a CNG alternative to the lineup will also help Tata in widening the audience reach of this already successful tiny SUV. Recently a trio of camouflaged Punch, Tiago and Safari was spotted somewhere in Tamil Nadu and based on the looks it, the Punch and the Tiago could be the CNG variant prototypes.
As of now, the Tata Punch is only available with a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine which produces a maximum power of 86 PS and 113 Nm of peak torque. However, the CNG variant will likely get a reduced power output as well torque figure. This engine is shared between the Tata siblings Tiago, Tigor, Punch and Altroz, indicating to us that after the first three before-mentioned siblings, Altroz could also receive the same CNG offering.
