Punch is based on the ALFA architecture which stands for Agile Light Flexible Architecture. The architecture is also used on the Altroz premium hatchback and it scored 5-stars on the Global NCAP crash test. So, we can expect a good crash test rating for the Punch also.

The doors of the micro SUV open up to 90-degrees which makes ingress and egress very easy. The rear floor is also flat which means there should be ample legroom for the rear occupants. Punch has a very impressive 366-litres of boot space which is larger than some of the premium hatchbacks and even some compact SUVs.

Engine and gearbox

Tata is offering the Punch with only one naturally aspirated petrol engine. It is a 1.2-litre unit that produces 86 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. There are two driving modes on offer, namely City and Eco. If you get the AMT gearbox then you also get Traction Pro mode. Tata Motors say that this feature can help micro SUV get out if it gets stuck somewhere.
