Tata launched the Punch in the Indian market in October and it has been selling really well. Now, the homegrown manufacturer has launched a new TVC for the Punch on their YouTube channel. We can see Punch going through some narrow streets, urban roads and some off-road trails. The video ends by showing the price and the 5 star NCAP rating of the Punch.
Punch starts at Rs. 5.48 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 9.08 lakhs ex-showroom. It is offered in four variants. It is Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative. There are also various packs on offer. There is Rhythm Pack that is offered with the Pure and Adventure variant. The Dazzle Pack is offered only with the Accomplished variant. Then there is the iRA pack that is offered with the Creative variant.

There is flat-bottom steering with audio controls, cruise control, automatic climate control, push-button to start/stop engine, touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, power windows, part digital instrument cluster, automatic headlamps and rain-sensing wipers.
Moreover, you also get LED Daytime Running Lamps, projector headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lamps, keyless entry, rear armrest, dual airbags, Anti-lock braking system, electronic brake distribution, fog lamps with cornering function, height-adjustable driver seat, auto-folding outside rearview mirrors with auto fold function, cooled glovebox, rear wiper with washer and much more.
Rivals
Punch competes against the Mahindra KUV100 NXT and Maruti Suzuki Ignis. It also has to go against the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite because of its pricing.
Engine and gearbox
As of now, Punch is offered only with a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. It produces 86 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. Tata has mated the engine to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. There is an idle start/stop functionality that shuts the engine down when the car comes to a halt and starts the engine automatically when the clutch is engaged. This helps in saving fuel. You also get two driving modes namely, City and Eco.
More engine options coming
Punch iTurbo
According to media reports, Tata will be introducing the Punch with a turbocharged version of the same engine. The engine is already doing duty on the Tata Altroz iTurbo. The engine produces 110 PS of max power and 140 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
It is expected that the new engine will be offered only with the Accomplished and Creative variant. Moreover, the Punch iTurbo is expected to launch in February or March 2022.
Punch Diesel

Recently, a punch was spotted filling diesel at a fuel pump. This leads us to believe that Tata Motors is also working on a Punch with a diesel engine. It is likely that the diesel engine will come from the Tata Altroz.
It is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder unit that produces 90 PS of max power and 200 Nm of peak torque. Tata might retune the engine as per Punch’s requirement. The diesel engine will be offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
