Tata Kite5 concept has been renamed as Tigor. The long awaited compact sedan made its first appearance at the Auto Expo 2016. The compact sedan Tigor will be based on the same XO platform as the Tiago. Tata Motors recently tasted success with the Tiago compact hatchback. The company has already started testing the sedan based on the hatchback and will bring the production version of the vehicle by March.
The Tigor is pronounced as Tee-guar, and Tata says that it is a fastback instead of a sedan. The roofline of the car will seamlessly dissolve into the boot of the vehicle, giving it a unique look. Tata Motors has shared a sketch of the production version of the car, and it does not look very different from the car that was showcased at the Auto Expo.
When Tigor is launched, it will become one of the cheapest sedans in India and will take on rivals like Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Swift DZire and Ford Figo Aspire. The new vehicle will be powered by the same engine that supplies power to the Tiago. There will be a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol and the 1.05-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine in the vehicle.
Given the competition, Tata Motors will also offer an AMT unit along with standard 5-speed manual gearbox. Tata Motors will re-tune the motor to make it more suit the weight of the Tigor too. The vehicle is made following the IMPACT design language of Tata. This is the third car that follows the new design philosophy after the Tiago and Hexa.
Announcing the name Tata TIGOR, Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, “After HEXA, we are speeding towards our next market introduction, the Tata TIGOR which opens a new category of style and attitude in this segment. The break-free design dynamics of Tata TIGOR makes it India’s 1st ‘Styleback’. We will announce its commercial launch soon and are excited to see the IMPACT of the ‘Styleback’ on our customers.
