The incident of a Tata Nano causing the Mahindra Thar to overturn has become viral on the Internet. New footage shows the moments soon after the accident between the two cars. Both the vehicles can be clearly spotted in the new video and show the damages too.
The video shows locals running towards the Thar as it overturned. People are peeping inside the glass and checking if the occupants of the vehicle are doing fine. On the other hand, the Tata Nano hatchback is spotted without much damage and is parked in the middle of the road. Since the Nano did not suffer much damage, the onlooker did not care to check the occupants. As per the reports, no one got injured in this accident.
More details of the accident have emerged in a YouTube video posted by Nikhil Rana, in which it revealed that this accident was between Tata Nano and Mahindra Thar in the Padnamapur police station area. While it remains unknown the point of impact with the Thar, it is highly likely that the vehicle was hit from the side. Since the Nano is much lower in height compared to the Thar, the impact caused the Thar to overturn.
After the accident, the red-coloured Tata Nano is seen standing still with only its front bumper getting completely damaged. Given that the front bumper is a part made of plastic, it can be assumed that the bumper had to break off after facing such an impact. However, apart from the broken front bumper, the Tata Nano is not showing any other sign of an accident, with its structure absorbing the impact very effectively.
On the contrary, the damages in the Mahindra Thar after this accident are pretty evident in the visuals. In the video, we can see that the Thar overturned but was not completely damaged after the accident, thus showcasing its prowess in its build quality and safety levels.
Tata Nano got zero star rating
The Mahindra Thar has already scored a commendable 4-star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests, which is why it has absorbed the impact effectively and kept its occupants in this accident safe, despite getting overturned. On the other hand, the Tata Nano had scored a poor 0-star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests. However, in many instances, we have seen how accidents involving Tata Nano have shown the decent strength of its build quality. Tata Motors discontinued the Nano back in 2019 owing to declining sales.
SUVs can overturn easily
Due to the top-heavy set-up of the SUVs, which is caused by high ground clearance, they tend to overturn much more than the standard hatchbacks or sedans. One should be extra careful at high speeds while driving SUVs at high-speed. With the high ground clearance, the centre of gravity of the vehicle moves away from the surface of the road. This causes instability in SUVs. This is why taking high-speed corners in an SUV gives you the scare while it feels perfectly fine in low-slung cars like sedans.
