Tata Motors has just released the first TV commercial for its latest offering, the Nexon AMT. Marketed as the Nexon HyprDrive, the new variants of the compact SUV will be launched in a few days from now, before the 2018 IPL season concludes. Here’s the first TVC of the upcoming compact SUV.
The Nexon AMT will be available in both petrol and diesel engine trims, making it the only sub-4 meter compact SUV in the country to get automatic options on both engines. The Nexon AMT is also expected to be the least priced automatic compact SUV in its segment, undercutting the Ford EcoSport Petrol AT and the Mahindra TUV300 Diesel AMT. Prices of the Nexon AMT will be announced soon and bookings are already open.
The Nexon AMT’s petrol variants will use a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine with 110 PS and 170 Nm, with the torque number being a segment-leading output. The diesel motor is a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit with 110 PS and 260 Nm, both figures being segment-leading outputs.
The compact SUV will be front wheel driven, even in the AMT variants. The AMT option will automate the operation of the 6-speed manual gearbox, and will also offer a manual gear shifting option to the driver. Features such as hill hold, traffic crawl and kickdown make the Nexon’s AMT unit the most advanced one ever to be introduced, in a car launched in India.
The Nexon is also available with 6-speed manual gearboxes. The compact SUV competes with the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Mahindra TUV300. It’s Tata’s second best-selling car, after the Tiago, with monthly sales of around 4,000 units. The addition of the AMT variants could push sales up by about 20%. This could make the Nexon a clear number 2 in its segment, behind the Maruti Brezza in terms of sales, but ahead of the Ford EcoSport. Sharp pricing, funky styling and a long feature list are three major factors that are driving sales of the Nexon in India.
