Tata Nexon AMT revealed in a spy picture before launch

Tata Nexon, the first sub 4-meter compact SUV from Tata has been gaining high popularity in the market. Tata currently sells the Nexon only with manual transmission option with both petrol and diesel engines. With the rising demand for automatic cars in the market, Tata is also working on an AMT version of the Nexon. For the first time, the interiors of the vehicle have been revealed through spy pictures.

In the picture, the chrome highlighter gear knob of the Nexon can be clearly seen. The driving mode knob of the vehicle is also visible in the picture. The AMT box gets the regular R-N-D gear slots alongside a manual mode which is also common in almost all the AMT cars. It will be a 6-speed automatic transmission similar to the manual gearbox that Tata offers with both the petrol and diesel versions of the vehicle.

It is not yet clear if Tata will offer the AMT option with petrol and diesel units though. Tata recently launched the Tiago AMT, which is only available with the petrol engine option. Tata powers the Nexon petrol with the 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine, which is based on Tiago’s 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine. The engine develops a maximum of 108 Bhp – 170 Nm. The diesel unit is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine powered car that develops a maximum of 108 Bhp and 260 Nm.

The new car is expected to be launched at the upcoming Auto Expo event that will take place in February. Only the mid and top variants of the vehicle are expected to get the automatic version of the manual transmission.

Other cars in the segment that offer automatic transmission are Mahindra TUV 300 that gets an AMT and Ford EcoSport that gets a torque-converter. Interestingly, Maruti Vitara Brezza, the highest selling car in the segment does not offer an automatic transmission yet.
