Tata Nexon has become the best selling compact SUV in September 2021. Tata Motors dispatched 9,211 units of Nexon in September. Nexon has reported a growth of 53.34 percent on a YoY basis and it had a market share of 27.66 percent. So, how did Tata Nexon beat other compact SUVs in terms of dispatch numbers?
Chip shortage is why Brezza lags
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza slipped to the 7th spot which is quite rare. The manufacturer dispatched just 1,847 units of the compact SUV. The reason behind this is that Maruti Suzuki has reduced production because of a semiconductor shortage. The shifts were reduced from two to one and the total production capacity was reduced by 60 percent.

Nexon EV is adding good numbers to the Nexon
The Nexon EV is the best selling electric vehicle in India. In August, Tata sold 1,022 units of the electric SUV. This was the first time that an electric vehicle has crossed the four-digit sales numbers in a month. In fact, Tata said that the demand for Nexon EV is the same as the Nexon Diesel. This is quite commendable because the Nexon EV starts at Rs. 13.99 lakhs and its top-end variant cost Rs. 16.85 lakhs. When compared the diesel Nexon starts at Rs. 8.58 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 13.23 lakhs ex-showroom. Also, what is helping the Nexon EV is the rising price of petrol and diesel. So, people are now serious about switching to a vehicle that is driven on an alternative fuel.
Lots of variants on the Nexon
Tata offers a lot of versions of the Nexon. There are five variants to choose from, namely XE, XM, XZ, XZ+, and XZ+(O). You can get it with a petrol engine, diesel engine or with an electric powertrain. The diesel and the petrol engines are offered with a manual gearbox or an AMT gearbox. You can even get a dual-tone roof or a Dark Edition of the Nexon now. The prices of the Nexon starts from Rs. 7.28 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 13.23 lakhs ex-showroom. So, there is a Nexon for everyone.
High safety levels
Tata Nexon is one of the safest compact SUVs that you can buy in the Indian market. We have covered stories where the owner bought another Nexon after the first one got totalled in a crash. So, people now do trust Nexon and have started considering safety levels before buying a new vehicle. Nexon was the first Indian car to score 5 stars on the Global NCAP crash test. Moreover, Tata Motors offers a lot of safety equipment as standard with the Nexon. It comes with dual airbags, ESP, Traction Control, Roll-over Mitigation, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Brake Disc Wiping, Electric Brake Pre-fill and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Looks
The first generation of Nexon did decent in the Indian market. Then Tata Motors launched the facelift of Nexon in 2020 and the looks of the compact SUV were improved drastically. It now had a lot more road presence and some even say that the front of the new Nexon looks like a mini version of the Land Rover Discovery which is not a bad thing.
