Tata Nexon CNG: Owner reviews the kit & the SUV’s real world performance [Video]

Tata Nexon is one of th emost famous compact SUV in the segment. It is also the only car in the segment to get a 5-star Global NCAP crash test rating. It competes with cars like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra XUV300 in the segment. The car has been doing good for the brand in terms of numbers every month. With fuel prices skyrocketing, people are now looking for alternate fuel options like CNG and electric. Here we have a Tata Nexon that gets an aftermarket CNG kit, and the owner shares the overall experience of this CNG Nexon.

The video has been uploaded by Hr Rakesh Sindhu on his youtube channel and he talks about the overall experience of installing the CNG in a car with turbo petrol engine. The issues he faced, the fuel efficiency it returns and the fit and finish of the CNG kit installed in the car. The video starts by sharing the experience of a older CNG kit that the owner had installed in the Nexon. It was 32 pin ECU CNG Kit which frequently gave troubles to the owner. The older kit from was a company called Automoto and was not suitable for Nexon’s engine as it started giving a lot of jerks and returned less economy.

Later the owner switched to better 48 pin ECU sequential CNG unit from a company called Greco and had installed it for over an year. The new kit was more suitable for the Nexon as it had not given the owner any troubles so far. According to the video, total cost of installing the kit and getting it on RC was around Rs 35,000. The car according to the owner is now returning a fuel economy of 20 kmpl in city and 25 kmpl on highways when driven in sport mode. The fuel economy will definitely go up if the owner decides to drive it in city or eco mode.

The overall fit and finish of the kit installed is good. The owner also asks customers to insure their CNG vehicle so that in case anything goes wrong with the vehicle in future like an accident, you don’t face a problem. The Nexon used in the video uses a 1.2L turbo petrol engine producing 108 Bhp and 170 Nm of torque. it is available with a 1.5L diesel engine also. Both the engines get manual and AMT gearbox options. Tata is working on facelift for Nexon and will be launching it in the market.
