A group of five friends had an epic road trip in the Tata Nexon, a sub-4 meter compact SUV. They drove the Tata Nexon across one of the world’s most dangerous roads – the Killar-Kishtwar highway. This particular SUV is reportedly the first Nexon to drive across this road. Ronit Kr, who was a part of this road trip, has shared a video and many pictures of the drive. You can watch the Nexon traverse the dangerous road in the video below.
The group started the 7-day road trip from Delhi, covering Chandigarh, Pathankot, Bani, Sarthal, Baderwah, Kishtwar, Paddar valley, Killa, Pangi valley, Gramphu, Rohtang pass and Manali. During the return leg, they drove the Nexon through Chandigarh once again before the trip culminated at Delhi. Ronit Kr has this to say about the Nexon’s performance,
We camped all through the way, and carried all equipments & ration. I could not find aCarrier for the Nexon in market but got a carrier from local shop which helped to carry all the load. The Tata Nexon really performed well in this trip. We did this trip this during the monsoon. The route was difficult. Up to Paddar, we were accompanied by a Renault Duster and a Mahindra XUV500 but then they decided to turn back. However, we continued further. The Nexon has good ground clearance, and in sports mode the drive was great.
The Tata Nexon that the friends were travelling in was a top-end XZ+ Diesel variant. This variant gets a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine with class-leading power and torque outputs of 108 Bhp-260 Nm. A 6-speed manual gearbox drives the front wheels of the compact SUV, and Tata Motors now offers a 6 speed AMT unit as well. The Nexon is also available with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol motor that makes 108 Bhp-170 Nm. Like the diesel version, the petrol also gets 6-speed manual and AMT options.
