The Tata Nexon sub-4 meter compact SUV has a unique feature: multi-drive modes. This feature allows the Nexon drivers to toggle between various engine responses, to suit various traffic conditions and moods. We now know the exact outputs the 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine of the Nexon makes in various modes. The 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine of the SUV is capable of maximum outputs of 108 Bhp and 260 Nm, which make it a class leader.
The compact SUV’s multi-drive modes feature City, Eco, and Sport modes. In City mode, the diesel engine produces 89 Bhp and 220 Nm. In sport mode, the engine makes 108 Bhp and 260 Nm while the eco or economy mode sees the engine’s output getting limited to 69 Bhp and 180 Nm. So, if you want maximum grunt, you need to opt for the sport mode while the best fuel efficiency is to be had in the eco mode. For daily driving, the city mode seems apt.
All variants of the Nexon Diesel get a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Tata Motors will soon introduce an AMT option on the diesel variant of the Nexon. Notably, the petrol-powered Nexon, which uses a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine with 108 Bhp and 170 Nm, also gets multi-drive modes as standard. The outputs of the different modes are likely to be similar to that of the diesel engine. However, the torque figures will be much lower given the fact that the petrol engine makes much lesser torque than the diesel. The petrol Nexon will also get a 6 speed AMT option in the coming time.
Tata sells more than 4,000 units of the compact SUV each month. The Nexon’s great pricing and fresh styling are two main reasons why the sub-4 meter SUV is doing well for Tata Motors. Prices of the Nexon start from Rs. 5.99 lakhs, making it the lowest priced sub-4 meter compact SUV in India. The introduction of AMT equipped variants is expected to make the Nexon a stronger seller in the coming months.
