Tata Nexon EV launched: India’s most AFFORDABLE electric SUV is here

Tata Motors has launched their first-ever electric car for the private customers in India in the form of Nexon EV. Tata has always been a brand that offers value-for-money products and the Tata Nexon is no different. The all-new Nexon EV gets a price tag of Rs 13.99 lakhs, making it more than Rs. 5 lakh cheaper than the newly launched MG ZS EV. There are three trim levels available with the Nexon EV. The base version XM, then the XZ+ and the XZ+ LUX, which is the most loaded version of the car. Prices start from Rs. 13.99 lakhs, ex-showroom India for the XM trim. The XZ+ trim is Rs. 1 lakh pricier, at Rs. 14.99 lakh while the fully loaded XZ+ LUX trim is another lakh pricier, at Rs. 15.99 lakh.

The Tata Nexon EV gets a new design, which looks matured and offers a lot of road presence. There is a single slat grille in the front with new sleek headlamps with integrated DRLs. the car gets highlights blue at the front, which has become a new norm for most of the EV vehicles. The tail lamps are also new and the floating roof design of the Nexon EV makes it noticeable on the roads. The car gets 16-inch alloy wheels.

The Nexon EV comes loaded with features too. It gets a semi-digital instrument cluster. There is a 7.0-inch TFT display for the infotainment system. Tata also offers a sunroof, automatic AC with rear vents and Harman sound system. It is also the first Tata car to offer connected features. There are over 35 connected features available with the Tata Nexon EV.

Tata claims that the Nexon EV can do 312 km on a full charge. It is ARAI tested range and in the real world, the range drops depending on the driving conditions. You may able to churn out a maximum of 250-270 km on a single charge from the car, which is not bad at all. The EV can be charged through home wall 15A socket and it takes about 8 hours to charge. Through the fast DC charging socket, the car takes about 60 minutes to charge up to 80 per cent. Also, it gets the energy recovery system that activates by itself when the vehicle is coasting. However, one cannot set the level of regeneration as they can do with the Hyundai ZS EV or the Hyundai Kona EV.

Talking about the connected features, Tata has introduced the ZConnect app with the car that can be used to check the vehicle’s status and health of the battery. It also gives safety-related updates. The connected services are also useful to make the car secure by putting up geo-fence. Also, the owners can get instant alerts if the car is breached by someone. The ZConnect system also monitors the driving sense on the parameters of acceleration, braking and average speed among others.

Tata is offering an 8-year or 1.6 lakh km warranty on the battery and the electric motor of the car. It is a first of its kind battery pack that gets the AIS 048 certification. It means that the battery has been tested against nail penetration, crushing, fire, overcharge, shock and short.
