Tata Nexon EV catches fire after a crash in Hyderabad: Passengers escape without injuries [Video]

Another Tata Nexon EV catches fire after an accident in Secunderabad, Telangana. This is the third Nexon EV fire. The incident happened after the car crashed into a tree after an accident. All the passengers travelling in the car came out of the vehicle without any injuries.

The video posted online without any information shows the flames coming out of the bonnet of the Nexon EV. It crashed against a tree, which probably caused the fire. It also seems like that the car went out of control and crashed into the tree. Another possibility is that the car crashed after the fire started.

Tata Motors is yet to comment on the incident. The brand officially released a statement after the last incident and pinned the blamed on the unauthorised repairs of that car. Tata is yet to release a statement on the fire this time. We will update the story with any official statement that we might get later in the day.

In June 2022, a Tata Nexon EV parked outside a restaurant in Mumbai caught fire, with the blaze originating from underneath the car. It was suspected that the SUV’s battery had been damaged, leading to the fire. In response to the incident, Tata Motors issued an official statement, pledging to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. The company also reassured the public that its products undergo rigorous testing.

It is important to note that despite the incident, the Tata Nexon EV remains the best-selling electric car in India. The fire could have been caused by various factors, such as short-circuiting, issues with the battery management system, or overcharging, among others. Similar cases of electric scooters from different manufacturers catching fire have been reported in the past.

EV catching fire

This is not the first time that electric vehicles are involved in deadly incidents of fire. In the recent past, several electric vehicles, especially electric scooters, have broken into the fire due to reasons like short circuits and excessive charging. In 2022, we saw several instances in which electric scooters caught fire.

All these instances are upsetting the Indian Government’s ambition to make India the largest market for electric vehicles. The aspect of safety of electric vehicles has been taken seriously by the Government too, which is why all the electric vehicle manufacturers have been told to take practice serious safety measures. In the last year, the Government also cracked down on a few electric vehicle manufacturers and monitored their practices in improving safety. A few companies have been strictly told to improve their manufacturing practices and improve the safety levels of their products.
