Tata Nexon EV Max vs Skoda Slavia 1.5 in a drag race [Video]

Electric vehicles are catching attention of car buyers in India. Tata Motors is one of the most popular brand selling electric cars in India and Nexon EV is currently the best selling car as well. Earlier this year, Tata launched the long range version of Nexon EV under the name EV Max. We have seen several videos of Nexon EV and EV Max online. Most the videos are related to the ownership experience but, there are some who show well does the electric SUV perform when compared to a regulat petrol or diesel car. Here we have one such video where a Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI sedan is seen competing with a Tata Nexon EV Max in a drag race.

The video has been uploaded by Pratham Shokeen on their YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger and his friend race in a Nexon EV Max and Skoda Slavia to see which one is a better performer. Vlogger explains the engine specification of both the cars. Skoda Slavia seen here is powered by a 1.5 litre, 4 cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that generates 150 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque. The Nexon EV Max on the other hand generates 140 Bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque.

For the drag race, vlogger chose a closed road and prepared for the race. Unlike petrol or diesel cars, electric cars have a very quick acceleration and that helps in such races and there is very little power loss. Vlogger sat in the Skoda Slavia and his friend was in the Nexon EV Max. Both cars had 3 passengers in it and the traction control was off on both the cars. For the first round, AC was on and the Slavia was in normal mode and the EV Max was in city mode.

Both the drivers prepared for the race and as soon as the race started, Skoda Slavia got a good launch and it immediately took the lead. Vlogger was surprised to see this happen as he was expecting the Nexon EV Max to just take the lead. The Nexon EV was right next to the Slavia but, it could not generate enough power to actually overtake Slavia. The Nexon EV owner was also surprised to see this happen. In the first round, Skoda Slavia won the race by a very small margin.

In the next round, both cars were put in Sport mode and every other setting remained same as before. The race started and Nexon EV driver took off the start line a second early. That gave it advantage and the EV had built a very good lead. However, the Skoda Slavia was performing very well and it could only overtake Nexon EV Max after it had hit the 140 kmph mark. Nexon EV’s speed is limited to 140 kmph. For the third round, both SUVs prepare to launch and both the drivers manage to do it successfully. Skoda Slavia has an upperhand in this round as it managed to stay next to the Nexon EV. Towards the end of the third round, Nexon EV Max had taken the lead and won the round. Nexon EV Max is announced as the winner of the race but on a longer track, Slavia would win the race without any doubt.
