Almost every automobile enthusiast who buys SUV dreams of taking them off-roading. And off-roading in the Himalayas is a dream come true as it challenges your car in extreme conditions. Tata Nexon is one such popular sub-4 meter compact SUV. Tata recently launched the facelift version of the Nexon with a BS6 compliant engine and has worthy competitors in the same segment, such as Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza and Mahindra XUV300. The Nexon is the safest car in its segment with a 5-star rating. However, the Nexon along with its competitors does not fall in the proper SUV segment as it does not come in AWD or 4X4 options. They are capable of the urban commute or tacking village roads as well. Here is a video that shows a Tata Nexon being tested to its extreme limits by driving it on really rough roads in the Himalayas.
The video was uploaded by Ridiculously Amazing on their youtube channel. The video starts with the driver’s view of the Nexon being driven on really broken mountain roads. The vlogger’s destination was Adi Kailash as mentioned in the title of the vlog. It could possibly be the first front-wheel driven car to reach these roads. The video further shows the capability of the driver and the Nexon being driven on practically rocky mush.

Initially, the car moves through really narrow mountain terrains with no tarmac on it. The whole road seems to be just filled with dust, sand and rocks from possible landslides at some point. Commercial and other big vehicles coming from the opposite side make things even tougher for the driver. After a while, the video goes on to show that the Nexon is riding on a steep section with a few hairpin turns. The road surface was so loose that the tyres of the Nexon started spinning at some points.
The video goes on to show that the Nexon also goes through river beds with huge stones. The driver seems to be extremely cautious and gets through the car without getting beached and hitting the bottom. The driving skills are extremely good as the Nexon is definitely not built to tackle such terrains and is seen struggling at some places. The Nexon is safest only on city roads and rural rough terrains.
At the end of the video, the vlogger explains that it is extremely challenging to drive the Nexon through such roads and they had to reverse the vehicle at some points because the Nexon couldn’t find a firm grip. Tata launched the Nexon in both petrol and diesel variants and the video is filmed with the diesel variant. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and the diesel variant is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both the petrol and diesel variants come with manual and AMT transmission options as well.
In fact, Tata has also entered the electric car variant with the Nexon EV. The Nexon EV is exactly the same as the petrol and diesel variant of Nexon except it run on electricity and not fuel. The Nexon EV has become the best selling electric car in India with already 2200 units sold within 10 months of its launch. The Nexon EV is also the fastest electric car in India with a claim of 0-100 km/h within 9.9 seconds.
