The Tata Nexon is among the top-selling sub-4 meter SUVs in India and among the best selling Tata vehicles, second only to the Tiago. The SUV marked its debut back in 2017 and now Tata is preparing for a facelift of the car. This mid-life facelift will make sure that the Nexon remains up to date with the competition. However, Tata is also working on the new generation Nexon which will come with a host of changes and basically will be a new car altogether. It will be based on the new ALFA platform and will be designed on the lines of Tata’s new IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy. This means that the next gen Nexon could sport a design similar to that of the Harrier. The render below shows how the Nexon would possibly look like with Harrier inspired design.
As seen in the render above, the front end of the Nexon looks heavily inspired by the Harrier and looks quite alluring. The Nexon was already a great looking car but with this enhancement, it now looks a lot better as well a futuristic. The sleek DRLs with headlights underneath design concept was first seen on the Harrier in the Tata stables. This is one of the distinguishing features of the Harrier and fits perfectly on the Nexon too. While this render focuses solely on the front end, a new design policy translated into a lot of aesthetic changes on the Nexon while maintaining the original design flavour.
As of now, the Nexon is based on the XO platform, which is found on many other Tata models too. Also, it is designed in accordance with Tata’s IMPACT design language, which has been replaced by IMPACT 2.0 now. The facelift will continue to have the same platform and design language but the next generation Nexon will be made on a different platform (ALFA) and design language (IMPACT 2.0).
This is in lieu of Tata’s future policy of having only two platforms, OMEGA and ALFA. Cars below the length of 4.3 metres will be built on the ALFA platforms and the rest on the OMEGA platform. Both these platforms are highly versatile and can accommodate a variety of body designs, engines, transmissions among others. They are also quite strong and the cars built on them will easily pass the upcoming crash test norms.
The Tata Nexon comes with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variants are powered by a 1,198cc, 3-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine with a maximum power output of 108 Bhp along with a peak torque output of 170 Nm. The diesel variants, on the other hand, are powered by a 1,497cc, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine with a maximum power output of 108 Bhp along with a peak torque output of 260 Nm. Both the engines come with manual and automatic transmission options. It is expected that Tata will not make any change to the engine and gearbox configuration in the upcoming Nexon facelift.
