JTP or Jayem-Tata Performance is a new sub-brand that Tata Motors will introduce to sell high-performance variants of its regular cars. The first two JTP branded cars will be the Tiago and Tigor, and these cars were showcased at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. IAB has put together a render on what the Nexon JTP could look like if Tata ever decides to go ahead and build a high-performance version of this hot selling, sub-4 meter compact SUV.
The render shows the Nexon with the JTP treatment as getting stylistic changes, with a new front bumper, highlights on the wing mirrors and revised alloy wheels. The compact SUV gets a new, lowered stance, in keeping with the higher performance on offer. Apart from these changes, in terms of styling, the Nexon JTP is not too different from the regular version, and that’s at least what this render suggests.
Since it’s branded the JTP, there must be major performance upgrades under the hood. For now, we can’t really figure what the Nexon JTP will feature as engines as the current crop of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines that power the regular Nexon are already quite powerful. Maybe a more powerful state of tune is what the JTP branded Nexons will get. For now, the rendering exercise is more academic in nature than Tata actually going ahead and building one.
While the JTP branded Nexon has no confirmation whatsoever from Tata Motors, what the company has actually confirmed is AMT variants of the compact SUV. Both petrol and diesel variants of the Nexon will get 6 speed AMT units. The Nexon AMTs will be launched in the next few months and Tata Motors had even showcased the car at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. When the Nexon AMTs are launched, the compact SUV will become the only sub-4 meter SUV offering in India to have automatic variants on both petrol and diesel trims.
