The Tata Nexon is the only mass market vehicle in India to bag a 5 star crash test rating from Global NCAP and Tata Motors is going all out to highlight this fact about the sub-4 meter compact SUV. The automaker has released another TVC that shows how safe the Tata Nexon is. This TVC comes at a time when competition for the Nexon has increased manyfold, and has actually pushed it down by two places in the compact SUV pecking order. Both the Mahindra XUV300 and Hyundai Venue are now ahead of the Nexon in terms of monthly sales, and the Tata SUV is down to fourth place, from the second place it was occupying for many months before the likes of the XUV300 and Venue were launched in the Indian sub-4 meter compact SUV market. Time then to watch the latest TVC.
The Tata Nexon is a SUV that actually feels very sturdily built. From the way the doors shut to the overall weight, the Nexon is easily the best in its segment in terms of sheer strength in terms of build. The Nexon gets twin airbags and ABS as standard across variants. To comply with the BNVSAP norms, Tata Motors has also equipped the SUV with reverse parking sensors across the range, speed alerts, seat belt reminders and ISOFIX child seat mounting points. The SUV does not offer 6 airbags on the top-end trim, and this is something that Tata Motors is likely to introduce going forward as the competition – read the Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Venue – offer this crucial safety add-on on their top-end trims.
What the Tata Nexon continues to offer, in a big way though, is very sharp pricing. The compact SUV continues to be the best priced vehicle in its segment, with prices starting from just Rs. 6.47 lakhs for the base-petrol model. The Nexon is offered with two engines – a 1.2 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol with 108 Bhp-170 Nm, and a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel with 108 Bhp-260 Nm. The engines get 6 speed manual gearboxes as standard while 6 speed automated manual transmissions (AMT) are offered as an option. In fact, the Nexon is the only sub-4 meter compact SUV in India to get automatic gearbox options with both petrol and diesel variants. The SUV will carry over both engines even after the Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms come into place and Tata Motors has announced that both these motors will be made BS6 compliant.
