Tata Nexon’s popularity still rising, 2 years after launch

In January 2021, Tata Motors sold 8,225 units of the Nexon against 3,382 units in the same period last year. This is a jump of over 143% against the January 2020 numbers. What makes it so popular? Well, here are five reasons that make the Nexon one of the most popular products from the brand in India.

The Nexon gets powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The turbo-petrol engine is available even in the base version of the sub-4m compact SUV. The petrol engine develops a maximum power of 120 PS and peak torque of 150 Nm while the diesel engine produces a maximum of 110 PS with 170 Nm of peak torque.

Interestingly, both the engine options offer an AMT automatic transmission. Until recently, the Nexon was the only car to offer an AMT with both the fuel option types in the segment. Mahindra recently launched the XUV300 AMT petrol that joins the diesel-AMT of the vehicle.

Value-for-money

Even though the Nexon is not the most affordable car in the segment, it surely offers a lot more in the price. The Nexon starts at a base price of Rs 7.09 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai. It remains more affordable than the likes of Ford EcoSport and Mahindra XUV300 among other cars in the segment. It is Tata’s value-for-money price tag that helps the Nexon get more buyers in the segment.

Useful features

The Nexon is not a feature-loaded car that offers wireless charger or ventilated seats. However, it gets a slew of features that are useful and makes the car much more practical too. The Nexon gets multiple drive modes that change the engine output, floating type infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 8-speaker system from Harman and IRA connected telematics system that offers What3Words and more solutions by connecting to a smartphone. The selective features ensure that it gets a value-for-money price tag and attracts more customers. Tata also offers a wearable smart key that can be worn by the driver. Wearing the key ensures that there is no need for a physical key.

5-star safety rating

The Tata Nexon became the first car in the Indian market to receive a five-star safety rating. While most Indians do not pay much attention to the safety of a vehicle, the preferences are changing slowly. With the numerous stories of Tata Nexon getting involved in accidents and the occupants coming out safely, it sure encourages many to choose the Nexon

Spacious

The Tata Nexon is quite spacious. Customers generally look for a five-seater vehicle in the segment and the Nexon offers loads of space. The rear seats are good enough for three people while there is a boot space of 350 litres, which is quite decent to keep luggage of five passengers during a weekend trip.
