What the Tata Peregrin (X452) mid-size sedan could look like: Will Rival Honda City and Maruti Ciaz

In the past few years, Tata has diversified their portfolio quite a bit. They have entered a lot of segments now. Now, they have a compact SUV, micro SUV, mid-size SUV, hatchback, compact-sedan and even a premium hatchback. However, they have not yet entered the mid-size sedan space. According to the media reports, the homegrown manufacturer is working on a new mid-size sedan which is being called Peregrin internally. They did showcase the E-Vision Concept back at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show which was a sedan and the Peregrin could derive some of its styling. Here, we have a rendering done by our in-house rendering artist Vipin Vithoopan of the upcoming sedan.

From the rendering, we can see that the Peregrin gets a very sleek and futuristic styling. It gets a sleek pair of LED headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps. We can also see Tata’s humanity line finished in gloss black. There is a wide airdam and vertical vents on the side to smooth out the airflow.

At the side, there are simple body lines and alloy wheels with red brake callipers that goes with the red paint scheme of the sedan. The outside rearview mirrors are finished in black and they have LED turn indicators on them. The rear of the sedan has not been rendered by the artist. Also, it is important to note that the rendering is based on the imagination of the artist, Tata Motors has not revealed anything about the new premium sedan.

Tata X452

Tata has codenamed the new upcoming sedan X452 and it is being called Peregrin internally, if you remember the Altroz premium hatchback was codenamed X451 and was called Aquilla when it was under development. Once launched, Tata will use a different name for the mid-size sedan. The Peregrin will be based on Tata’s latest ALFA platform which stands for Agile Light Flexible Architecture. We have already seen this platform on the Altroz premium hatchback and the recently unveiled Punch micro SUV.

Peregrin will be designed using the IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy that Tata Motors is using in all its current vehicles. The design language is one of the strongest points of Tata’s vehicles. Everyone likes the way Harrier, Nexon, Altroz, Safari and even the Punch looks.

Earlier, it was reported that the development on the X452 has been cancelled in favour of B-SUV that will compete against Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. However, then an official document was leaked in which suggests that the Peregrin is still being developed.

Engines

Because Peregrin is a derivative of the Altroz, it will also use the same set of engines. So, there would be three engines on offer. There will be a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5-litre diesel engine and a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. A manual gearbox will be standard across all the engines. However, by then Tata Motors might also offer a new dual-clutch automatic transmission with the turbo petrol engine. The diesel engine could get a 6-speed AMT.
