Tata Motors has revamped its lineup of CNG-powered cars, introducing new CNG variants of the Punch mini-SUV and updating the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG with the carmaker’s twin-cylinder technology for CNG tanks. Let’s delve into the details of these new compact CNG cars from Tata Motors.
Tata Punch CNG – What’s New? The all-new Punch CNG, which made its debut at the Auto Expo 2023, is now available in five variants – Pure, Adventure, Adventure Rhythm, Accomplished, and Accomplished Dazzle S. These variants are priced between Rs 7.10 lakh to Rs 9.68 lakh, making them approximately Rs 95,000 to Rs 1.60 lakhs more expensive than their petrol-powered counterparts.

Under the hood, all the Punch CNG variants are powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, producing 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque in petrol mode, and 73.4 PS of power and 103 Nm of torque in CNG mode. The Punch CNG comes exclusively with a 5-speed manual gearbox and boasts twin CNG tanks with a capacity of 60 litres.
The higher-end Accomplished trims of the Punch CNG also feature a single-pane sunroof, a feature not currently available in the petrol version. Other features, such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7-inch TFT in the instrument console, automatic climate control, projector headlamps, and 16-inch alloy wheels, are shared with the petrol variant. The Punch CNG competes directly with the Hyundai Exter CNG.

Tata Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG – What’s New? Alongside the Punch CNG, Tata Motors has updated the CNG variants of the Tiago and Tigor, now equipped with the same twin-cylinder technology for storing CNG, as seen in the Altroz CNG and Punch CNG. The new Tiago CNG is priced between Rs 6.55 lakh to Rs 8.10 lakh, while the new Tigor CNG ranges from Rs 7.80 lakh to Rs 8.95 lakh. Tata Motors has increased the prices of all CNG variants of Tiago and Tigor by Rs 5,000.
The implementation of twin CNG tanks beneath the boot compartment in the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG has made their boot compartments more practical and user-friendly. Previously, these cars had conventional CNG tanks, which compromised their boot space.
Both Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG retain the same CNG powertrain based on the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which is also found in the Altroz CNG and Punch CNG. The Tiago CNG will compete with rivals such as the Hyundai Grand i10 CNG, Maruti Suzuki WagonR CNG, and Celerio CNG, while the Tigor CNG will take on the Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG and Hyundai Aura CNG.
