Tata Punch hits 100,000 units milestone in a record 10 months

Commenting on this milestone, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said,

We are delighted to share that Punch has achieved the 1 Lakh sales mark within a short span of 10 months. It is one of the highest selling SUV from our ‘New Forever’ portfolio.

The Punch is Tata’s second product based on the ALFA architecture and claims to have the agility of a hatchback and the DNA of an SUV. While it’s front wheel drive only, Punch’s high ground clearance and light weight makes it a handy performer on rough terrain. Tata Punch has been on the Top 10 highest-selling cars list in India since its launch. July 2022 saw it reach sales of 11,007 units—highest ever for this diminutive SUV from Tata Motors.

Powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine, it delivers a fuel efficiency of 18.82 kmpl in Manual version and 18.97 in the AMT guise. Offered in both MT and AMT transmission options, the Punch is India’s safest sub-compact SUV with 5 Star GNCAP rating.

The car is available in 8 colors, as well as in dual tone options. With features such as projector headlamps with LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, rain-sensing wipers, auto-fold ORVMs, 16-inch diamond-cut alloys, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic temperature control, semi-digital instrument cluster amongst other features.

The production version of the Tata Punch looks very much like the HBX concept. The design of the front-end has similarities with bigger siblings the Harrier and the Safari. It has a purposeful stance with 16-inch diamond cut allows, Y-shaped tail -light LED elements. Measuring 3,827mm in length, 1,742mm in width and with a wheelbase of 2,445mm, it has roughly the same footprint as Maruti Swift.

However, it’s taller with 1,615mm height, which with upright pillars do help with that SUV-like look. The interiors are spacious and bold. The price of Tata Punch starts at Rs 5.49 lakh, ex-showroom with the top end costing Rs. 9.48 lakh, ex-showroom. The AMT version begins at Rs. 7.29 lakh., ex-showroom. It competes with Maruti Suzuki’s S-Presso and to some extent with Ignis as well.
