Tata Motors has unveiled its latest vehicle for the Indian market. It is called Punch and it is a micro SUV. The homegrown manufacturer will be launching the Punch on 20th October. It will be going against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100. However, because of the pricing, it will also compete against the Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. Here, are some of the newly released pictures of the Tata Punch.
Tata has not yet announced the prices of the Punch but we expect it to start around Rs. 5 lakhs ex-showroom. The on-road prices of the Punch should start from somewhere around Rs. 6 lakhs and go up to Rs. 10 lakhs. Punch does look very attractive because it looks like a mini version of the Harrier.

The front design of the Punch is very similar to the Harrier. The LED Daytime Running Lamp and the turn indicators are located in a strip that integrates with Tata’s Humanity line and grille. The main headlamp unit is placed below and it uses a halogen projector setup.
The lower variants will get the conventional reflector setup instead of projectors. There is a thick black plastic bumper but it does look nice on the Punch as it gives a very butch look to the SUV. You also get fog lamps with a cornering function.
The Punch will be offered in seven paint options. There would be single-tone paints and dual-tone paint jobs also. On the side, there are 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels while the lower variants will get 15-inch wheel covers or hyper-stylized wheel covers. The rear door handles are placed on the C-pillar which gives the micro SUV a three-door look. You also get roof rails and thick plastic cladding all over the side profile.
The ground clearance of Punch is 187 mm which is enough for tackling our bad Indian roads. Punch is also based on the ALFA architecture which is also being used on the Altroz premium hatchback.
The doors of the Punch open up to 90-degrees. This makes getting in and out of the micro-SUV very easy. The floor of the Punch is also flat so the person sitting in between on the rear seat should have ample legroom.
The Punch is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 86 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. You can get it with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT that drives the front wheels only.
There are two drive modes on offer, namely Eco and City. The AMT gearbox also gets Traction Pro mode. Tata also offers an idle start-stop system which can help in saving some fuel.
The interior of micro-SUV gets body-coloured accents around the AC vents. If you get the tropical mist colour then the same colour is used on the dashboard too.
There are also a lot of features on offer such as automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, part digital instrument cluster with an analogue speedometer, multi-function steering wheel and cruise control.
It also gets iRA connected car technology, what3words and natural voice technology. Moreover, you get puddle lamps, a cooled glovebox, push-button to start/stop, automatic climate control, a rear-seat armrest, LED tail lamps, rear parking camera, defogger and much more.
