Tata has used the name “Punch” for their upcoming micro-SUV. Before this, we knew it as the HBX Concept that was first shown at the Auto Expo 2020. The Punch will lock its horns against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV100 and some of the lower variants of Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. Tata has released another teaser for the Punch which emphasizes safety.
Tata has always been concerned about the safety of their vehicles. You might know that all of their vehicles have scored 4 or 5 stars in Global NCAP crash tests. They also offer quite a few safety features as standard with their vehicles.

In the video, we can see that there is a bubble around the Punch. This is supposed to be a protective bubble protecting the occupants. We can also see some crash test dummies in the background. The advertisement says “Complete Package. Absolute Safety.”
So, the Punch should also come with some safety equipment as standard. It is expected to come with a puncture repair kit, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Cornering Stability Control, seat belt reminders, speed alert system, seat belt pretensioners and rear parking sensors as standard.
There is a chance that Tata adds more equipment some more safety features. The higher variants would come with a rear defogger, follow-me-home headlamps, rear parking camera, fog lamps, speed-dependent door locks and much more.
Design
The Punch looks like a mini Harrier, it gets the same split headlamp design where the LED Daytime Running Lamps is placed above and the main headlamps unit is below. The higher variants will also get a projector headlamp. The lower bumper is finished in black and has Tata’s tri-arrow elements in it. This gives a rugged look to the Punch.
At the side, there are new alloy wheels and thick plastic cladding that runs throughout the width of the car. You will also be able to get it in dual-tone colours in which the rearview mirrors and the roof will be finished in a different colour than the body colour. The rear door handles are placed on the C-pillar which gives the Punch a three-door vehicle effect.
The rear looks like a jacked-up hatchback. There is a small tri-arrow element in the tail lamps. At the rear, we can also see a thick black plastic bumper which is there to give the Punch a SUV proportion. The design looks very similar to the HBX Concept. Tata did announce at the Auto Expo 2020 that they will be able to keep 95 percent of the design elements when they make a production-spec.
Engine
Tata Motors will be offering the Punch with the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine. It is a naturally aspirated engine that produces 86 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 113 Nm. It will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. Tata might also offer the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that we have seen in the Altroz. However, they might retune it to produce less power. It will only come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
