Tata Punch, Nexon and Altroz now deliver more mileage than ever before: Details

Like all the other carmakers, Tata Motors has updated its entire lineup of cars with BS6 Phase II compliant engines. While the Harrier and Safari got noteworthy feature additions, the rest of the cars from Tata Motors got only the updated engines. This lineup of cars includes Tiago, Tigor, Punch, Nexon and Altroz. With the new RDE-compliant engines, all these cars are now claiming better fuel efficiency figures than before. The increase in fuel efficiency of these cars ranges between 0.6 kmpl to 2.4 kmpl across all these cars.

Tata Motors has also addressed the lack of low-end power in the 1.2-litre petrol engine powering the Altroz and Punch, which now claim to offer better driveability than before. This engine produces 86 bhp and 113 Nm of torque on both the Altroz and Punch. Apart from a 5-speed manual gearbox in both these cars, this engine is also available with a 5-speed AMT in the Punch and a 6-speed DCT in the Altroz.

Diesel engines are still available

Contrary to the earlier speculations made, Tata Motors has decided to continue the diesel-powered variants of the Altroz. With this and the discontinuation of the Hyundai i20 diesel, the Tata Altroz is now the only hatchback in India to come with diesel-powered variants. For the diesel Altroz, Tata Motors claims a hike of 0.6 kmpl, with which its claimed fuel efficiency now stands at 23.6 kmpl.

Also, for Nexon diesel, the hikes in fuel efficiency are 2.1 kmpl for the Nexon diesel manual (23.2 kmpl) and 2.4 kmpl for the Nexon diesel AMT (24.1 kmpl). The 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque in Altroz diesel and 115 PS of power and 260 Nm of torque in Nexon diesel.

Besides updating the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines, Tata Motors has also upped the warranty offered on its cars and SUVs. The standard warranty offered on Tata Motors’ cars and SUVs now stands at 3 years/1 lakh km (whichever is earlier). Previously, all these cars and SUVs were available for 2 years/ 75,000 km (whichever is earlier).
