Tata Punch is the official name for HBX micro SUV: Officially revealed [Video]

Tata Motors is one of the most popular car manufacturer in India. They are known for the build quality of their cars. They have variety of products in the market that are spread across several segment. Like many other manufacturers, Tata is also concentrating on SUVs and one of their upcoming product a micro SUV is expected to be launched in the market in coming months. The HBX micro SUV concept was showcased at the Auto Expo last year and the production version of the same has also been spotted testing several times. Tata Motors has now officially revealed the name of their upcoming micro SUV as ‘Punch’. Tata also unveiled an official image teaser video of the upcoming Punch.

Unveiling this much-awaited SUV, Mr. Shailesh Chandra – President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said – “Tata PUNCH, as the name suggest is an energetic vehicle with a capability to go anywhere. Light on its feet and strong in its caliber, this is a vehicle which truly punches above its weight. With the perfect combination of stunning design, technology and driving dynamics, the PUNCH will come equipped with superlative features and an architecture that has proven its versatility in all forms. True to the SUV genes of all Tata Motors’ products and catering to needs of customers who are looking for a compact city car with pure SUV characteristics, PUNCH will be the fourth addition to our SUV family, widening the range of options for all to choose from. “

The video has been shared by Tata Motors on their YouTube channel. In this video, Tata teases us with some of the exterior features of the Punch or the HBX micro SUV. The Tata Punch will compete with cars like Maruti S-Presso and upcoming Hyundai Casper in the segment. The video shows a front end design which is similar to what we have seen in many other Tata SUVs. The front end actually looks like a mix of both Harrier and Nexon.

Both Nexon and Harrier are popular SUVs in their respective segments. The front grille gets a gloss black slat which is seen in Nexon. There are LED DRLs that are placed like an extension of the grille. Turn indicators are also expected to be integrated in here. A silver or grey colour garnish or humanity line can also be seen at the front. In the spy pictures, it was already clear that the headlamps will be positioned on the bumper and the same can be seen here as well.

The headlamp is a projector unit and the cluster will have a mix of gloss and matte black finish to give it a sporty look. Tata’s tri-arrow design can also be seen inside the headlamp cluster. The bumper looks quite muscular to give it that SUV like look. This is what Tata has shown in the video. From the spy pictures of the test mule that we have seen recently. Tata will be offering Punch with a dual tone diamond cut alloy wheel, it will have black claddings around the car to give it an SUV look.

The production version of the Punch looks a lot like the digital render that our render artist had made. At the rear, Tata will offer tri-arrow design LED tail lamps, muscular bumper and on the inside, Tata’s floating style touchscreen infotainment screen is also expected to be seen.

Tata HBX will be offered with a petrol engine only. It will be powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine that is also being used in the cars like Tiago, Altroz and Tigor. This engine generates a maximum of 85 Bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. This engine is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AMT gearbox option. Tata might also offer a turbocharged version of the same engine at a later. It is the same engine that Tata introduced in Altroz iTurbo earlier this year.
