Currently, cops have vehicles like Innova, Ertiga, Gypsy. Earlier, this year, it was reported that police will get smaller vehicles to improve emergency response time. Here, we have a render of Tata Punch as a police vehicle. Punch is a micro-SUV. It is much smaller than the current vehicles that the police are using. So, it would be useful to get into congested markets and narrow streets.

The render is finished in a gloss black colour with police livery and decals on the sides. Beacon lights are also placed on the roof of the Punch. There is a bull bar placed in the front on which we can see a small light bar is mounted for additional visibility. It is important to note that this is just an imagination of the artist, Tata Motors is not developing a Punch for the cops. As of now, they have only developed a special version of Safari for the army. It is called GS800.

The Punch starts from Rs. 5.48 lakhs ex-showroom and goes upto Rs. 9.08 lakhs ex-showroom. It is available in four variants, namely Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative.

Tata also offers various packs from the factory that a customer can opt for while booking his Punch. There is a Rhythm Pack that is offered with the Pure and Adventure variant. Then there is Dazzle Pack that comes with Accomplished variant. Finally, there is iRA pack that is offered with the Creative variant.

Punch competes against Mahindra KUV100 NXT and Maruti Suzuki Ignis. Because of its pricing, it also has to go against the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.

Punch is the safest vehicle in India

Punch is currently the safest vehicle that you can get in the Indian market. It scored 5 starts in the Global NCAP crash test. The adult safety rating was 16.45 out of 17 and the child safety rating was 40.89 out of 49. The bodyshell and footwell areas were rated as stable. Tata used its ALFA platform to underpin the Punch. This is the same platform that they are using for the Altroz which is currently the safest premium hatchback that you can in the Indian market.

Engine and gearbox

Tata is offering the Punch with only a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. It produces 86 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. There are two driving modes on offer namely, City and Eco.

Upcoming Punch Diesel

Recently, a Punch as spotted at a fuel pump while filling diesel. So, Tata might launch the Punch with a diesel engine in the future. However, as of now, nothing is concrete. If Punch does come with a diesel engine, then it will be a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder unit that we have seen on the Nexon and Altroz.

Upcoming Punch iTurbo

There are reports that Tata Motors might launch the Punch with the turbocharged petrol engine that we have seen on the Altroz. It is expected to launch early next year and will be offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Tata Motors has not yet confirmed anything about the launch.
