Tata Motors will launch the much awaited Safari Storme on October 17, 2012. Prospective buyers have been waiting for the Safari Storme to launch ever since it was first showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year.
Tata will sell the Storme alongside the present 2.2 Safari DICOR and will be priced slightly above the present model. The Storme is also expected to come with minor changes compared to the model that we saw the Auto Expo.
The interiors are expected to be a bit more refined than the Storme seen at the Expo as well. We can expect the Storme to be priced aggressively in the Rs. 9 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh range putting it in Mahindra XUV500 and Renault Duster territory. Also read: Tata Safari Storme driven!
When compared to the present Safari the Storme has several changes. It has been built on the Tata Aria’s hydro formed body-on-ladder chassis and will have better ride and handling that the current model.
A 5.4 meter turning radius will add to its agile nature making it relatively easy to drive on out crowded city roads. It is also powered by a 2.2-litre DiCOR motor like the present model but it puts out 140 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque in the Storme. Also read: Communityspeak: Tata Safari versus Safari Storme
External changes include a Land Rover-like look courtesy of a honeycomb grille, new headlamp cluster with projector headlamps, new bumper and fog lamp housing. In profile there are subtle changes to the rear fender, foot step and door handles. While the rear, sports a cladding band above the chrome strip, an integrated roof spoiler and chrome-tipped twin exhausts. Also read: Safari Storme Review: Highlights!
The Storme’s launch has been delayed several times over past year and it seems like Tata took some time to make changes to the original concept. Tata may have decided to make changes to the Safari Storme after getting feedback from industry experts and those who sampled the car first hand at the expo.
